(049) The girl and the typhoon + thinking about the future.

Today is the day I'm heading back to Iowa! Two semesters left - of course, hopefully. It's frustrating right now because my credits from my time in Japan haven't been transferred over yet, so I'm not exactly sure of the level of panic I should be exhibiting right now. In any case, just a bit would be what I call a 'healthy amount;' I'm a double ( Read more... )

while it sounds like it was pretty miserable, that's kind of a wonderful story - i've been reading a lot of shoujo manga recently, and it totally sounds like a plot line from peach girl or something ;p (well, if the romance angle had been played up a bit more, but whatevs)

good luck finishing school! :)

Hahaha, what was wonderful about it was definitely the generousity of my friends and strangers. Otherwise I think it makes a sucky plot line!

Thanks so much! ~_~ Starting looking into thesis development today, wanted to bust a hernia immediately.

Wow, I'm sorry you had such a trying experience. But at least you were able to make it out okay, and I'm definitely glad that while you had to go through all that, you feel like you have a good connection to Japan and to specific people that you maybe wouldn't have without the craziness.

Also, I don't know. It always strikes me how generous Japanese people can be. I think generally there's this idea that Japan is xenophobic and so heavily into the whole "I'll invite you but I'm not actually inviting you" thing, and while maybe that's true of some people, there are definitely so many out there who just want to help out. I'm glad you were able to find those people when you needed them, especially as a foreigner in a stereotypically unfriendly country.

Good luck with school and the rest of it. Plz be ganbarimasuing.

It's true, very true. While I mention the staring often, and will definitely point it out to people who are going to Japan and are conscious about that kind of thing like I was, it's so important to note that while people stare they are usually, in most cases, not doing it out of hate. I can understand because while I was in Japan and saw a foreigner I didn't know I stared just as much because they were so out of place. Is it kind of rude? Well... yeah. Is it done to BE rude? No. People have been rude to me much more often here in America than in Japan. I... kind of want to say more and in a neater manner, but my brain is not loading on that right now, but I hope you get what I mean?

I will ganbarimasu saigo made~. :) /joint language grammar cry
