[ MATTHEW IS IN FACT NOT AT THE DANCE, but is in the common room staring at Quidditch tactics and half baked ideas for that school project stroking his beard.
[ ...there's a pot joke to be made somewhere, but Katya doesn't know any. :(
INSTEAD, she comes downstairs after issuing her STERN AND SERIOUS WARNING TO THE STUDENT BODY, to start working on Christmas presents. that's right, instead of an upper body, she is an armful of multicolored yarn balls piled high and about a dozen knitting needles poking out. as such, she doesn't actually see Matthew until she puts everything down in an overstuffed armchair by the fireplace. ]
[ Hey, Matthew hasn't even touched weed (yet), not a single ounce!! In any case, Matt glances up at her in surprise. The hand that had cradled his chin in academic wonder immediately flails outwardly in some sort of awkward gesture, his spine straightens from its morose slouch.]
Eh? Oh! No, certainly not, Katyu-- [ No, no, not yet. ] Katya. I'm just.... thinking. Sorry, um.
[ Good evening, it's not as if I've been avoiding you this entire week or anything. ]
I wasn't expecting any company, please excuse this mess.
[ THAT'S RIGHT STRAIGHTEN UP you'll ruin your posture if you don't sit properly!!!!! ... is what she would say if they hadn't been Super Awkward all week. ]
Well... [ sheepishly Katya shrugs, a gesture at her own disorganized pile of yarn. ] Neither was I, really. I thought everyone would be at the dance, so I could get some work done.
[ why is she talking like he didn't clearly have the same thought, WELL because silence is clearly more awkward than rambling. right? right. ]
