An update!

Hullo again, journal.

It's been an eventful few months!

I mentioned driving in my last update, back in March. I got my provisional, took lessons, passed my test, and am now a danger to society in my own pride and joy. She's a beautiful Volkswagen MKIII Polo, second hand and 12 years old, but nice and reliable (mostly) and a wonder to drive. I've been told many times recently that I wash my car too much, but I like to see it shining! And red fades so easily, too, so it needs a regular wash / polish.

AS courses are over now. Final results were:
Maths: A
Physics: A
English Lit: C
Further Maths: No grade yet, as I've only done 2 out of the 3 modules, but I got A then B in those, so I'm confident
ICT: No grade yet, as it's through college so works on a different system. Again, I'm confident.

I'm back at school again now; having dropped English Literature my timetable is somewhat lighter, with only 4 subjects. I am, however, trying to take 2 extra Maths modules, just for the hell of it. Mechanics modules 3 and 4, because I thoroughly enjoy Mechanics, and I'll also use them to get myself (hopefully) a few more points.

Speaking of Mechanics, I've decided what I want to study at University (at long last): Physics! It's a nice balance between the Mathematics which I have such a passion for (shut up XD) and something that will be of practical use in the real world. It also gives me a very wide scope for what I can do after Uni, and best of all Physics graduates are in very high demand. Suits me right down to the ground.

The summer holidays weren't much of a holiday for me. I spend 6 weeks working full-time at ITT Jabsco in Hoddesdon, an engineering company. It was a placement, sponsored by the Nuffield Foundation, sort of like work experience but better. While I was there, I worked on a project to redesign one of their pumps, which was both challenging and a lot of fun. Lots of experimenting, theoretical calculations, oh, and the odd game of pool. While it sucks a little that I got so little of the summer holidays to myself, I enjoyed myself so much there that I think it makes up for it. Came out of it with a nice bonus, too!

...Which I just bought myself a new camera with. Canon Powershot S5 IS, my new baby. It's a "Prosumer" camera - basically incorporating the features of a DSLR, but in a more compact body. It's not quite as advanced as a DSLR, but close. The specs read wonderfully, and it performs well too. I'm a big fan of Canons - I like their features, how they handle, and they produce good quality stuff.

TL;DR:

- I now have a driving license, and my own car, which is my pride and joy
- AS courses are over now, A2s have started with a bang and LOTS of Maths
- Completed a sponsored project over the summer with an engineering company, and THOROUGHLY enjoyed it
- Just treated myself to a new camera with the bonus from the project mentioned above - Canon Powershot S5 IS.
