The Hazards of Love (Revenge!) -- Lyrics | Song

In the year of 1866, just after the Civil War, Mary Banks, a young woman living in small town Eugene, Oregon, married the town’s troublemaker Tom Galloway. Tom was considered a rake, spending all of his earnings on booze and gambling, fighting with the local bar goers when he was truly smashed, and charming the pants off any woman that he came in contact with.

Mary, for whatever reason, had become absolutely smitten with him. Some say it was to piss off her parents, other think his charm was too strong, and the rest just thought she was actually in love, but all agreed that it was a terrible thing for someone as sweet as her. Tom went with it because why not? It would give him someone to cook his meals, darn his socks, and keep up with the house. It wasn’t like he had to be faithful or anything silly like that.

Things were great until Mary got pregnant, giving birth to their first child, a boy they named Isaiah. After that, two daughters followed, first Charlotte, then her younger sister Dawn. Tom hated them all, but Mary was filled with love for each of her ‘little blessings.’

One more child tried to make its way into the world, another daughter who was named Myfanwy before dying during birth, taking Mary along with her.

Tom, at the death of his wife, began to formulate a plan. The only things keeping him now from his former bachelor life of beer, cards, and women were his three children. That’s when he began picking them off one by one.

Charlotte was killed first after her father mixed large amounts of foxglove into her food. It took her a few horrible days of suffering before finally kicking it. Dawn, being only two, was the easiest to kill, Tom drowning her in the bath after leaving her alone. Isaiah proved a challenge, the boy having become suspicious of his father. Tom went to kill his son in the middle of the night, but Isaiah had been waiting. The two fought before Tom finally overpowered the boy, beating him to death, then burning his body out of spite.

There was nothing left tying Tom down or to the town of Eugene so he left, deciding to see how things were up north in Washington. While traveling through a forest, he met a forest queen, who convinced him to capture a woman named Margaret whom her son had fallen in love with. Taken with the queen, he agreed and easily captured the woman, poor Margaret left to a nasty fate before Tom was set to kill her so that her lover may never see her again.

About to carry out another murder, Tom was suddenly haunted by visions of his children, each horribly twisted by their deaths. They killed him first, dragging him down to the depths of hell where they ripped him part, leaving his next victim free.

[Personality]
Before her death, Charlotte was a sweet, curious girl, normal of most girls her age. The world was new and it was hers. She loved her siblings and was particularly close to Isaiah, the two of them often tromping through the woods together, fishing, exploring, or climbing trees. She’s not the most ladylike girl to ever grace this world, but it mostly played into her age, wanting nothing more than to run around with her siblings.

She was also -- and still is -- very polite, especially with grown-ups, knowing when to mind her Ps and Qs. Charlotte would be the first to offer help with things like setting the table or attempting to help her mother cook. The offer would oft extend to her father, but was always turned down, Tom wanting nothing to do with his kids.

After death, before Mayfield, she became twisted and bitter and who could blame her? Her spirit, as well as that of her siblings, was vengeful and filled with spite. The once kind and sweet girl was changed into a monstrosity, enjoying causing pain and torment. Before properly being able to manifest herself, she would haunt around her old house, smashing things and making doors and windows slam. Typical ghost things.

While angry at her father, she was most angry at her mother for dying and leaving her to her fate in the hands of Tom. She has abandonment issues and will most likely be resentful to her new ‘parents,’ viewing any sibling given to more as family than either parental figure.

[Abilities]
[Spirit] -- As a ghost, Charlotte can do the typical ghost things: walk through walls, disappear at will, make objects float, etc, etc. Being dead also gives her a frightening appearance, the girl looking how she did before she died, all skinny with sunken eyes, lanky hair, and pale skin. As a ghost, she’ll periodically relieve the last few days of her life leading up to her eventual death.

[Toxicity] -- Charlotte is physically toxic. Touching any part of her will leave poison on one’s hands and while the poison of foxglove won’t necessarily kill a person, it can cause them to become horribly sick. Bit more about the toxicity of foxglove.
