Longing for my bed

Jun 09, 2005 09:51

The heat is drowsy and heavy, and paradoxically, it keeps me up. Last night I couldn't get to sleep until I decided to eschew all my much loved blankets and lie on top of a neatly made bed in a sleeveless nighty with the window open. I only got 4 hours of sleep as a result, and in my present condition, that's not a good idea. We're supposed to be ( Read more... )

The thing with money is that the more you have, the more afraid you are to let it go. When you're sitting on a whole pile of savings, the terror of *spending it* because then *it will be goooone* can actually prevent you from living your life. I speak for myself: I have been sitting on a savings account for a while, too afraid to dip into it because then it won't be there when I "really need it." Sure enough, that's all over after this summer, when I will return from the Middle East in debt for the first time. And you know what? That feels good. Because I've changed my attitude: rather than saying "If I spend this, it will be GONE" I am thinking "If I spend it, I will gain memories and life-experience that will change me." And I find I'm sp[ending more freely now than ever before. Sure, I can't afford the lunch out I had yesterday, or the beer/nachos I'll have tonight, but you know what? I sure enjoyed every minute, and the money was worth it ( ... )

*cue hearty applause*

Unfortunately, I can also see where Michelle is coming from. In principle though I completely agree with this comment, and she probably does too. The thing is that, in particular when you have someone else to think about as well as yourself, suddenly the often necessary brashness of life is so easily curtailed...and I suppose that isn't always a bad thing.

As for home ownership...well, I can completely understand the desire for that, but do you really think it's a worthwhile priority at the moment? How long do you think COrey's degree might take?

Glad you spoke with Angel!

Feline eh? Are you up to some mischief, woman?

word about howells. i don't know any other recordings of it, but the HHC one suits me just fine. also, i think it's high time to get wednesday pubs back into effect, don't you? it's less shameful to sing alone than to drink alone.

Actually, my library has a recording of the Requiem. . . on audiocassette. Hah! I don't know if either of you have current library cards, but you could still listen to it in the library, or at least see the information. The flipside has the Vaughan Williams Mass in g Minor. It also has the Howells Te Deum and another V.W. piece, but I forget which one. . .

Dear Michelle,

I'm sorry I didn't call you yesterday, but it turned out to be a much crazier day than I had anticipated and I didn't even get home till about 8! I feel bad because I did promise to call. Also, I really do want to finally get together!!! Here's hoping next week will be more willing to cooperate with our plans. Maybe it's for the best to have put it off - it still sounds like you need some rest.

Heat remedy: Delmonte real fruit popsicles, in kiwi-strawberry. Yummy. I ate FOUR yesterday.
