Well, that was refreshing!

So I stumble out of bed this morning after a long sleep that left me surprisingly poorly rested. I feed the dog in a trance, somehow pour orange juice without wearing it, and prepare for one of my favourite daily routines, the excessively long hot shower. One of the many perks of this apartment building is that hot water is always in ample supply. ( Read more... )

It is surprising, isn't it, how refreshing a tepid shower can be, despite it's lack of desirability.

Good luck at the doctor's appointment. And thanks for reminding me to schedule my annual girllycheck-up. For some reason, iedical insurance here doesn't include breast and pelvic exams in annual physicals for women. But it does include personal exams for men. Did that make sense to you? It didn't to me...

Michelle,

I never thought I'd actually be interested in or enjoy reading a journal entry about someone's morning shower, but guess what? You've done it :)

Looks like there's a reason you're doing so well in journalism school. That was delightful.

Ouch! I can't imagine going through the whole routine with just COLD water available. I'd probably skip on washing my hair. Well, kudos for sticking it out!
Our new apartment is a pain in the ass warm water-wise. We've had some problems a few times last moth when there was no warm water and I had to go through a similar experience. Since then (whatever they've done), each time you want to shower you have to wait at least 5 minutes till the water runs warm! I'm thinking of mentioning this to the super or have him look at it or something. If you multiply that by 7, you come to a conclusion, that in fact you waste anywhere between a 1/2 to 1 hour a week just waiting for your shower water to be ready. How ancient!

We used to have a similar problem in an old apaprtment.
Have you tried turning the cold water in the bathroom sink on while you shower? I realize that it is also a horrible waste of water, but at least not time?

The cold water? No, I haven't tried it. I'll see if it works. Generally I have to run the hot water tap in the shower or the sink. I started brushing my teeth, till the water gets warm, but I'm still upset about the waste of water and sometimes I forget, jump in the shower and it's a real bummer!
It disquises itself too! First it runs normal -warm - after about a minute or so - after you've already gotten under - it gets cold and you're left shiverring for 5-10 minutes!
