Can someone explain to me how the hell to get my gmail chat sidebar back in a Safari window? When I log in to gmail on firefox on the pc, the chat app is opened in a sidebar automatically. But I can not find how to make that happen on the mac

About the gmail chat: between Contacts and Labels on the left side of the gmail window, I see my name with a little disclosure triangle and an edit field with grey words "Search, Add or Invite". There's a setting so it might be down below Labels. Is that what you meant?

I'm of course not on the mac now to check, but it's possible there's something small and grey that I missed. I'll check. Thanks.
