i went to wash my hands in the bathroom at school today to 'freshin up' (didn't even use it to go number 1 OR number 2) -- and i took off 2 of my "special" rings (which, not to mention were silver) and placed them on the sink.. then immediately gone and rushed to the foodcourt out of severe hunger and just simply from lack of breakfast and

another moral of the story:

"never took off your rings when you wash your hands...."

i kindda relate my dad story to your story...he forgot his wedding ring in the airport rest room when he washed his hands...he only realized that he's not wearing his wedding ring when hes already on the plane and took off....
