Birthday coming up...new beginnings, I hope

Well, it's certainly been an up and down year, my 21st year of life - though, I have to say, it seems to be full of more downs than ups. Sure, my 21st birthday was nice, I've gotten to see some great bands over the summer, and I've managed to (hopefully) befriend some new college people. However, I feel like I've been on edge a lot, like on the ( Read more... )

Let me start out by saying that you're making a very rash decision as well as being naive. It's very noble of you to say that you don't care how other people look or dress and in an ideal world people's looks wouldn't have any affect on their social lives or daily functioning. We do not live in an ideal world. Not everyone is you, Ryan, people really do make their first impressions off of someone based on what they wear or how they look. So while say that you may not care most of the world does and I'm willing to bet that you really do to a certain extent as well. You can't "look" at someone's personality if you've never communicated with them before, but you can see what they're wearing and how they hold themselves. It's a major part of someone's first impression. The way you look and your body language plays a large role in how sighted people perceive you, there's no arguing that. It's not necessarily a bad thing. If someone is wearing your favorite band shirt or similar clothes to your own then you've already got something in ( ... )

You're right, we don't live in an ideal world, and yeah, people do make first impressions off of clothes and how they look. However, I don't think that's the case with me. I could be wrong, I'm not sure, but that thought has never entered my head and I've definitely had some people be very friendly towards me as recently as the last school semester.

I should get him to clarify about what he means about dressing my age, yeah. I think he might be talking more about dressing more my age in my work environment, and while I do dress semi-casual there, so do a lot of people. I'm a summer aide at SSA, so it's not really a big deal to dress the way I do, and there's not a bonafide dress code there either.

Right now, I'm only considering switching, and I'm more on the side of staying with this guy. My mother is very much on the opposite side - she would like me to switch.

Thanks for your opinion, I appreciate it.

i think that you should try and stick it out with this guy...he's a professional and sometimes where they go with stuff is not quite clear...

if you don't understand something...always get a clarification...hearing something and not processing it will not help you...

if in a couple more visits you feel no progress is being made then you might want to look into someone else...

You make me sad, Scott. It's not fun without you to poke and chat with :(. But yeah, I know that Alpha Syndrome is back, Crad sent me the link last week, and so far it's goin well. Yeah, no Tela there certainly does suck, but it'd probably be worth it if you join.
