I went through this same thing and spent a miserable semester in journalism because it seemed like I could change the world that way. Honestly, I would be better off in design, where I can independently release materials for social change, rather than risk getting FIRED for doing the right thing. I'm not sure what your major is (I've been M.I.A. on lj lately), but I can tell you that you can do good in this world, no matter what your skills are. Seems strange, but true ( ... )

My major is Advertising and Marketing Communications, and while it is very specific (there is no 'foundation' year), there are a lot of professions I can go into, journalism being one of them incidentally (I'm taking that next semester.) We can also do broadcasting, public relations, and basically any part of the advertising agency that is not art or design. I really like that because although I was going to go into art, I thought it was kind of limiting (if you can't draw you can't get anywhere), and I have broader interests than that. Saying that, there are still a lot of creative stuff to tackle in this major, so yea, I think there are a lot of chances to do good with it. My faith in it is growing everyday ( ... )
