Oh my God - I just flicked onto Sky News during my morning coffee, as I tend to do, and this just made my blood run cold. As someone who's quite a nervous flier anyway, and has had nightmares about bombs going off mid-flight... *shudders* At least they seem to have found out about the plot in time, though. And I'm glad they're taking precautions ( Read more... )

They were talking to people at the airports on the BBC, and someone was having a hissy fit about the hand luggage - it's like for crying out loud, surely you'd rather a tiny inconvenience than be blown up?! Completely selfish and stupid...

Yeah, some people eh! To be honest I CAN see where they're coming from - if you're doing a long-haul flight, say 11-hours to the States (where they'll be being incredibly vigilant with luggage) or 24-hours to Australia, it's going to be horrible without having a few books to help pass the time. That said, I definitely think a few hours of sheer boredom versus the possibility of having a bomb explode on your plane... suddenly in-flight entertainment doesn't seem *quite* so bad!

Most of the people I saw on the news were being really positive about the luggage restrictions, saying that it was for safety and under the circumstances it was totally understandable - I do love that our country generally takes things like this quite well. Remember the old guy that got quoted after the 7/7 bombs with the "We've been bombed by professionals" line? Absolutely classic. It's up there with the "Tea, anyone?" jokes, IMO. I do love England some days :)

*hugs* Yeah, thank goodness. I can't believe the attacks could have actually been within the next few weeks, It's a worrying thought. And lord, I'm nervous enough on Trans-atlantic flights as it is, I go to pieces during any turbulance that's over the ocean... Will actually be a nervous wreck during the next flight I do now!
