Sometimes she catches her likeness in a looking-glass, and the face that stares back - thin, symmetrical, rosy, even - makes Rachel flinch. It isn't something that happens often - she's a 15-year-old girl, at all, and an exceptionally good-looking one at that. She does her fair share of looking into mirrors. But usually she makes the decision, however lazily, to check her hair in the girl's washroom or admire her own cheekbones in the dim pane of a car window on a sunny day, and she's prepared for what she sees. It's when she sees her reflection someplace by accident that Rachel feels the dreadful clench in her chest, like a fist squeezing a heart until its beating grows slow and thin, at how young and sweet that girl looks, a girl Rachel - whose perfectly manicured fingernails hide the black-dried blood of dozens, maybe hundreds - feels nothing like.

She's just so blonde. And yes Rachel's always been blonde, and always found it a little bit funny, in fact, that she also turned out beautiful, but now there's something almost wrong ( ... )

Seriously, this fandom does not get enough love. And I am so glad you enjoyed it, OP! I was afraid I strayed a little too far from the prompt, but it was a joy to write Rachel since she's one of my favourite heroines ever precisely *because* of how effed-up she is.

(And ha ha, the SVH reference was probably the most fun to come up with. 90's nostalgia, all the way.)

Thank you so much!
