The Golden Compass

A while back my father and I went to see The Golden Compass. I thought that overall it was very well made, but that there were several ways in which it kind of killed the book. ooo i basically agree, but the thing i didn't get was why they kept jumping back and forth between children's movie, horror film, political intrigue, and war story. i think it could've been a bit tighter...

we were kind of left with a 'wtf' feeling after the ending. Yeah, Roger definitely does die! Also I couldn't stand Nicole Kidman in it even though I usually like her.

However, the rest of the casting was superb and it was a pretty fun movie. Yay bear fights! Yay airships! Yay daemons! Yay!

Yeah, I was really WTFed.

I thought Nicole was perfect for the role. Even back in elementary school when I first read the book, I always thought she'd be good, so I was really happy when the movie came out and she was in it.

The SFX were great though. And I am glad that the part where Iorek lops of the other bear's (why was his name not Iofur?) jaw was kept.
