I had my ibook facing the sun and was working on it and the screen went black. I could squint and see the screen barely. Then I restarted it. It worked for awhile and then went dark again - I was using it so I know it wasn't the screensaver. Do you think it's sun related or a wire to the screen??? The sun was shining so bright I could see the apple ( Read more... )

if your screen is going black and you can still faintly see the image on the screen but its just not illuminated, then it means your backlight is to blame. basically an lcd screen doesn't to much to change the pigmentation of the pixels. and if you don't have a source of light from behind it. then the shaded pixels won't really do you any good.

that means that if this continues to be a problem you will probably have to replace the lcd inverter board. or the logic board, or something else...to be honest...it would be in your best interest to either just deal with it, or take it to a apple service center and bite the bullet.

I've taken my ibook apart before and lemme tell you what, its not for the faint of heart...its a cramped area in there and any little mistake could be a big problem.

lemme know if you need any more help lady:-)

Thanks Nate, yeah, I'm really dumb with technical stuff, thanks. So far it hasn't done it again, hopefully it won't happen all the time. It's probably costs a buttload to replace. I figured that it wasn't the sun, but you never know.
