Fear the pungent parka

On Saturday I got to watch the start of the Iditarod! Well...for just half an hour...and it wasn't the true start because the true start is somewhere in the valley and this start was just for the spectators. There were lots of gorgeous dogs around, but they all seemed to be freezing. I passed by a pickup where the lead dogs got to stay inside while ( Read more... )

These shoes?

Here's my "looking completely unique for less money" guide: pick one part of your body you want to be completely unique and over-stated. Such as, hey, shoes. Go online, and spend too much money on very fuctional, but very unique styles. Try delias, glfa, and Alloy first. Once you're as close to being broke as you can be, thrift shop for everything else.
If you can't scrimp on buying other clothes, there is one, final option:
DIY.
Get cheap, white canvas shoes and "fabric medium"--it's this clearish stuff that mixes with regular craft paint to make it permanent in fabric. Paint those little checkers on the shoes yourself. Get some funky shoelaces and keep a nice sense of humor. You'll feel better in the morning.

See, I ordered those shoes online because Alaska has no shoe stores that charge less than $50 dollars for those types of shoes...and I liked the gradiation on them and figured I couldn't mimic it. I don't do DIY because it takes time out of my life that I don't have to donate to looking unique x_x...if I were ever to do something DIY it'd take me about 3 hours before I was satisfied with it...and then I'd end up trashing the poor thing. I like to thrift but the local thrift store is notoriously steep (they charge 30 dollars for old prom dresses! With holes in them!!!)

I was just wanting to see if they were *those* shoes. :D Painfully cute. I'm a huge fan of the print--if you want to get mega spiffy, delias has the matching purse.

I still totally suggest DIY for canvas shoes. If you want unique shoes, it's the only way to be sure they're one of a kind. Unless you want to sew, I guess, which works just as well. Another thing I'm completely obsessed with are these Clorox stain pens--you're supposed to use them on small spots on whites, but they work really well to doodle on material with. It looks really cute on jeanz. :D
I'm a slave to shoes, but I'm also a slave to *having money*. I suggest trying to get some really crazy shirts or something. :p
