Unemployment rates are sky-high.  But there ARE jobs out there - it's just a matter of swallowing your pride and taking a job that's "beneath" you.  If, God forbid, I were to lose my job tomorrow, a job where I sit in a nice office, you better damn well believe I'm going to suck it up and take a job I don't want ( Read more... )

I'd take whatever job I'd need to so I could keep my house. I'd look around while on unemployment but when the benefits ran out, I'd be shoveling shit until something better came along.
I think we need more jobs in highway construction. Our roads are in desperate need of repair and there are people who need work so it seems obvious to fill that need. That's what they did during the Depression.

Exactly! But today's job seekers don't want to work in road construction. They want to make 6 figures working in an office. Those days are over.

it's this beautiful sense of entitlement that everyone seems to have.
I think my favorite catchphrase to my hypothetical children will be "suck it up." Not "you are special and deserve only the best."

Neil and I have had this same conversation recently. If I was to loose my job I would do just about whatever I had to do. I always have. And I would likely enjoy it.

And we also are going to instill in Jude his need to be able to do just about everything for himself. A trade as well as an education. Neil is great example of this himself.
