I watched the movie to death when I was little. Like, literally played and rewound and played the tape until it crumpled and disintegrated. And then, around the age of ten, I read the book and decided I wanted to 'write like that' so I started trying. THUS WAS BORN THE MONSTER YOU SEE BEFORE YOU NOW, HUHUHU.

But yeah, no, we are bound by wonderful unicorny threads! I just nominated the book as a fandom for the Yuletide challenge, and the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab just released a collection based on TLU and I have empirical proof that you could write the hell out of that prompt/request/word-string-from-my-face.
