Declaws are not the awful, atrocious, mean nasty things that some people make them out to be. People perform hysterectomies on cats and dogs, and that's way more invasive.

Divot will always be a strictly indoor cat, so he won't have to ever defend himself. Also, the birds were here first, and if he ever tries to attack one through the cage bars, getting pawed will result in a lot less damage than getting clawed.
