I love this. I am a big Lang fan, and you've really captured her here. The picture you paint of Alex seen from her pov is heartbreaking - when I was watching these two episodes for the first time I too, like Lang, wanted to take him home and hug him and put him in the shower so he'd look like season 2 Alex again :).

You've also described Alex's selfishness very well. If he was a little self-absorbed before, now he's a junkie in withdrawal it's ten times worse.

Yes, so very, very much :-) I identified with Lang so hard in these eps -- that desire to step in and somehow fix it all -- to fix *him*, to make it all better. Yet Alex, although still so perceptive in other ways (he works out the 'drug the tower guard's coffee' plan despite being high enough to reach orbit), is so totally oblivious. The only thing he can still see is drugs & Michael -- and while that's a source of squee to the Michael/Alex shipper in me, it's also kind of heartbreaking too.
