Lovely. Jack needed more from the Doctor than just that note.

Thank you so much! He did, didn't he? He really, really did. There was just no way that was enough, that snippet we got. Which is where fic comes in :-)

Exactly!

I love your idea of setting it *during* EoT. I've written a fic that expands on the bar scene, but it's set later, so it's with Eleven, not Ten. Doing it with Ten is much more effective, since he and Jack have been through so much together. Great work.

I loved this. Thank you.

Thank you so much! There was just no way that the brief snippet we were shown onscreen was enough. Jack deserved so much more than that.

I love this so much.

eta: I especially loved how you brought it around to the canon scene from End of Time. So wonderful and heart-breaking!

Thank you so much! ::bounces::

I watched the Alonso scene in EOT and I thought I could see what they were trying to do -- The Doctor saying 'fly, Jack! Go live your life and be yourself' -- but they were, obviously, doing it for the DW audience. In the context of Children of Earth, I found it horribly simplistic and inadequate. It needed something else beforehand, a proper scene to which what we saw could be the coda.

And then there are my own issues with the idea of immortality, which I find COMPLETELY HORRIFIC. With Jack viewed through that lens, 'Life goes on' isn't an optimistic cheer-up, it's a curse. And thus, fic was born :-)
