2. History - Carve your initials into the Augustus Tree?
In this section, detail the character's history. This history may be longer for some characters than others. You don't have to go into too much detail, but an overview of the important parts of the character's life will be fine. This will be especially important in case your character is a Persona-user, as their history and how they react to it in their personality will have a definite bearing on the kind of Persona they will receive.
Wataru was born in Port Island. His father, Todasu, is a managing director at a music label company called HAS (Heavenly Audio Station) and his mother, Hisoka, is a housewife and a former police officer. His older brother, Yoh, is about six years older than him.
Unfortunately, the family learned that Wataru suffered from autism after monitoring his strange behavior. Although he could laugh, cry, he could not speak an actual word. He had been withdrawn that he was unable to communicate. This didn't help that his father didn't get a chance to do anything with his children. Towards people outside the three people in his life, he would not even let them touch him or vice versa. The responses ranged from him smacking the person or the hand getting smacked away before he ran from them. In worse cases, biting.
Although the austisic child never spoke, he was able to communicate with his trying family on his wants and needs. Most of them had been physical through tugging or body language if they catch it, failing that, temper tantrums. Wataru took interest in staring at the stars and his father took notice of it. It was one of the few ways that Todasu could get close to the boy. Yoh managed to get close to the boy by teaching him to play baseball. Wataru was hesitant at first, but with Yoh's guidance, he got the hang of it. It drew the boy closer to his older brother. Yoh's interest lied in the guitars, watching the rock bands play. Wataru was encouraging to his brother's dream in his own way, always listening to him play. He even learned to play the acoustic guitar from his older brother.
Outside of his family, however, it was difficult for him to make and maintain friends due to his nature, especially when touched. He preferred to be alone rather than play with the other children, due to the fact that he is unable to communicate with him. Being teased about his inability to speak didn't help matters. At times, this caused incidents of violence against the other kids at school. Teachers had to step in to keep Wataru from nearly killing one of the students. Wataru was a good kid, but was very response towards what was thrown at him. In spite of all of the teasing and influences by the peers, Wataru's autistic behavior put him in the path of his academic success, given his obsession to the academics, particularly with astrology.
Under the guidance of Yoh, Wataru stayed after school to help the teachers. It was far from the only way that Yoh influenced Wataru towards progressing in spite of his autism. Often, Yoh would take Wataru fishing and show him how to fish. Mimicing his brother, the two would often make some good catches. He even gotten Wataru to show a bit more life in his expression.
Things grew like clock-work for the boy. Wataru was merely eleven years old. At the time, Yoh was a base player for a 5-man alternative rock group called Razor Heaven. He let his little brother watch his performance and continued to show him how to play a complete song from the acoustic guitar. Wataru was progressing nicely against his autism, even going as far as being mischevious with his parents like a normal kid, even if he'll never become normal. He was able to share his first word with Yoh, 'big brother' out of endearment, proving that he was capable of speaking.
What was a significant amount of progression would decline abruptly due to tragedy. The twelve-year-old boy was wandering the Port Island bridge, trying to get a present for the family with the money he made through his guitar performance out in the streets. Unfortunately, because this was during the Dark Hour, stray Shadows were about. Yoh, a member of SEES, was in battle with the creatures at the time. Unfortunately, one of those shadows noticed Wataru and moved in to kill the boy. Quick to act, Yoh put himself on the line while pushing Wataru back and took a knife to the heart. The wound was fatal and the impact sent him off of the bridge. Before Yoh finally fell, he used his Evoker to release his Persona in order to eliminate the Shadow to prevent it from going after Wataru next. The whole event left the boy staring in horror: from seeing his brother killed to his brother using the strange device to release some demon. Not willing to leave his brother's side, dived into the water to try to rescue, or perhaps join his older brother.
Eventually, the police managed to come in and rescue the drowned Wataru, who was still clinging onto his brother. When he finally came to, he realized that they were pulling him away from his brother. Although Wataru struggled through biting, kicking, and screaming, they pulled the boy from the deceased brother. It would be the last time that he'd speak.
When brought in for questioning, Wataru's obsession switched over to the shadows, responsible for his brother's death. None of the police believed him, despite how vehemently Wataru pointed the picture. No one believed him. Not even his parents. One possession that Yoh passed down to Wataru was his lucky pendant and his acoustics. Wataru took the gifts as the personal treasure left by his brother.
Five months have passed since his brother's death. Now, Wataru is thirteen years old. His parents have accepted that their child may never speak (again) especially since Yoh's death, but they know how to communicate with him. Wataru lives a lonely life without his older brother around. Every weekend, he'd visit his brother's grave to play a tune through his brother's momento: his acoustic guitar. He lets things go as clock-work, yet there is one thing that is still on his mind. Ever day, the boy sketches out pictures of the Shadow, recalling the very thing that killed his brother. Holding himself and the shadows responsible for his brother's death, his heart is filled with vengance and self-hatred.
It wasn't until some time ago that he wandered back to the bridge where his brother died at. He wandered to the sea, staring at it for a long time until a familiar object washed to shore in front of him. The boy was able to recognize it, his memories tracing back to the 'gun' that his brother used to summon the demon that came out. Wataru took the Evoker, wondering if this device is the answer to his problems.
At this point, Wataru's Persona has not awakened.
3. Personality - "Let's positive thinking!"
Even more than most MU*s, due to the nature of the theme this section is essential. This is what justifies the Arcana you have chosen in your profile, as well as will help determine the nature of the Persona that Persona-wielders use. You don't have to have a perfectly sane character - far from it, as the entire basis of Persona is is how their users wither triumph and grow past their flaws and become better for it, or sink down and become ever more terrible with the addition of their new power.
Tell us what makes your character tick. What is their general temperament? What do they think about the world and the people in it? What evokes emotion in them, if anything? What are their goals, hopes, or dreams? What motivates them to do things, either good or bad? What do they think about the supernatural and occult? If they know about Personas and Shadows, what do they think of them?
You don't have to answer this like a test, but as the central part of the application, the more and better information you give here, the easier it will be to play your character in the world of Persona. Just remember that quantity is not the same as quality, though don't hold back on account of length, either. Write as much here as you feel you will need
In the general public, Wataru gives off a blank stare, never giving any form of expression. He is very socially inept. Due to his disorder, his experience with making friends and maintaining them have been less than successful. For the most part, he is a little anti-social. Wary with the general populace, he is very slow to welcome a hand his way. If anything, he is quick to smack away the hand and sometimes the person /if/ they come too close of touching him. He comes off as abrasive for that very reason, considering that he is aggressive with pushing people away. His past issues with maintaining friends makes him scared of making and keeping any friends that he makes.
Wataru has his personal bubble. He is used to the loneliness, so people coming closer to him are generally unwelcomed. When the personal bubble is invaded, his wariness increases. If even close to touching him, the boy is quick to respond by smacking the hand away, the person, or if worse, biting. The latter is very prevalent if the person is grabbing him. Wataru is very unapologetic about his actions, given that he usually warns them with his body language. This is also keeping in mind that Wataru doesn't touch the person as well.
In a way, Wataru uses his blank stare as a mask. It always keeps the person guessing over what he does and if he is hurt, he doesn't show it. He figures that if he won't make friends, his mask will further push them back. He considers it his personal and emotional protection. It shows no weakness. The only time he usually breaks the 'mask' is if he is angry, which is easily when he is touched by strangers. But it is a little brief. There are times when emotion does show through the 'mask' as well.
Despite of his socially inept nature, the boy will quick to tend to a person's wounds. He is the type of person who will take a wounded to a resting point, bandage them up and stay around at a distance until they are better. ..And likely ask them to leave, or if his parents are home, drag the wounded to the house. It would depend if Wataru really feels like reaching out. Otherwise, if they seem a little suspicious, he'll go with the former sans sticking around. Wataru is trained in first-aid, so he knows how to apply it. CPR, however, Wataru refuses to do as it involves touching others.
However, should person manage to ease Wataru's wariness, the boy may become attached to that person. Even though he'll never speak, he will, hesitatively, let the person pat him on the head, even if he will playfully fight against it. Those who gets past Wataru's barrier can find that he is like any other kid in some ways. He has various emotions, but may still remain stand-offish. He is the type of person who will get annoyed of having to save people from their own stupidity at times. Or depending how well he knows the person, it'll seem like another long day.
One of the things that Wataru likes to do is play baseball. There is a thrill of being able to catch a ball and smacking the ball with a bat. Of course, this gives him a bit of an edge with his crowbar, since he knows how to swing it like a bat at times. Nevertheless, Wataru likes to go to a baseball game from time to time to see the players play. This can range from minor leagues to major.
Wataru has a great skill with sketching. He doesn't add color to them, just a monochrome sketch. This has traced back to his deal with the Shadows. His vision is vivid, so he puts what he has in his mind onto paper and he tends to make it come out life-like.
Stargazing is an important link between him and his parents. Even though his father is more into stargazing than his mother, is perhaps the easist way to break through his wary barrier that he puts up. The thoughts of the stars and astrology excites the boy and should the person have the same interests or at least entertains it earns access to his heart.
The one thing that Wataru guards the most is the acoustic guitar that he keeps in a case strapped to his back. Wataru is never without the guitar. Wherever he goes, the guitar is with him. The guitar belonged to Yoh and it is considered Wataru's personal treasure. He treats the guitar in the same way as, if not worse than, touching him. Even those who he let allow close to him aren't allowed to touch it. He keeps his crowbar near the guitar, as he likes to be able to reach for it and smack the person who dares touch the guitar. If he is taken to a place and the guitar isn't with him, he will have a huge temper tantrum to where he will grab anything he sees and throw it at anything and anyone until his guitar is brought where he can reach it. In a way, having that guitar pacifies him. It is the last thing that is left of Yoh in his heart, so the boy will protect that guitar with his life.
Losing the person who was the closest was a personal scar to the boy. Yoh was Wataru's best friend and mentor. When everyone within his peers gave up on Wataru, Yoh never did. While he loves his parents, the fact that Yoh was a peer, or rather, a kid like him, made it easier for Yoh to get close to the inept boy. He even spoke for his older brother, which was a progress that he willed himself to do despite of the disorder. Witnessing his older brother's death ended the progression that he was making all of the years. Wataru suffers a bit of self-loathing issues due to the guilt of feeling responsible for his brother's death. It makes him a bit dead inside in some ways. However, it is also the boy's strange motivation of helping people at times. He ritually visits his brother's grave on the weekends to play the guitar for him. It is Wataru's way of being able to talk to his brother without speaking. He feels that playing the song that his brother taught him is a way for them to communicate. The visitation to his brother is Wataru's most guarded secret that he never shares with anyone. Only the people that Wataru trusts the most are shown the area and why he visits. Only his parents are aware of the visit.
Losing Yoh created an obsession in Wataru. That obsession is drawn towards the Shadows, the creatures responsible for his brother's death. The obsession shows in numerous ways. Wataru has sketched a lot of vivid, lifelike pictures of the Shadows. Oddly enough, it is the same type that killed his brother. The fact that no one believes him further drives the point of trying to expose them. In fact, this coincides with his Persona, Agravain, as he wanted to expose an adulterous relationship. It is a dangerous obsession, but Wataru will not be satisfied until he exposes the Shadows and end them. He just waits for an opportunity.
Communication tends to be a big issue with Wataru. Considering that he is unable to talk, he will communicate through other means. Body language is the first way of communicating, this is especially those who he do not know. He can hear and comprehend people and he will remind people that he is not deaf. If he needs to get their attention, he may bang on something loud or pointedly move to a direction to guide them. Should it be someone that he lets close to him, he will poke them or tug them to follow him. The boy is quite computer literate, yet his statements will be terse.
Although he lost Yoh, Wataru still loves his mother and father, even he is a bit withdrawn from them, even more towards his father at times. However, he hasn't withdrawn from them completely. He is helpful around the house and will always look over their shoulders to see what they are doing. In a way, Wataru is still fighting against his own nature to let his family close to him. Whether the same will be for friends is hard to tell.
Wataru is mostly reserved on his actions. He prefers to walk rather than run and he looks rather than leap. This can be good for those who befriend him since he can at least give them warning or save them when needed to. The only time that he will abandon his reserved method is when he considers 'What Would Yoh Do?' Wataru looks up to Yoh to the point of wanting to better himself to be a bit like Yoh. This may lead to Wataru having moments of doing something rash, as long as his heart is in the right place. Yoh is a huge motivation for the boy to try to do good things. In some ways, Wataru's guilt drives the motivation as well.
He wants to avenge Yoh and that is by doing the things that he felt that Yoh would had wanted him to do. However, his man goal/hope/dream is to be able to make friends. He knows that he has a bad reaction to people. He wants to open up, but it is hard for him when it becomes conditioned the way that Wataru reacts with strangers touching him. With the frustrations of having a hard time to communicate and being afraid and unused to people, Wataru has difficulties making friends and keeping them. He wants to try, but with so many people giving up on him, he has the hardest time trying. He is conflict, as he wants to reach and and sometimes has. Nevertheless, the cycle with the emotions that confuse him will continue.
The occult is scary to Wataru. It is also a very intriguing enough to draw his attention. Not enough to where he wants to practice it, but it draws enough to where he wants to find out more about it. He doesn't want to be ignorant of it. His brother died due to the supernatural and no one believes him on how he died. Wataru doesn't know anything about his Persona, as he hasn't unlocked it. He loathes the shadows. When he watched his brother died, Wataru repeatedly drew them, the memory of them stuck to his head as he is able to recall what killed his brother. He wants to make those monsters pay. But he doesn't know how.
4. Faction - "I knew Guido was up to no good from the moment I met him at a cocktail party!"
There are many outlooks on how to best harness the powers of Persona and Shadow in the world... Or not. There are as many factions as there are outlooks. Why does your character belong to their particular faction? What makes them loyal? Or are they loyal at all? While we're at it, what does your character think of the other factions?
Wataru isn't in any faction at the moment. He knows nothing about what is going on or who does what. Only thing that Wataru will care about is this: If they are for the Shadows, Wataru will not like them. If the organization are about harming his parents, the only people he has left, he will not like them. That is his logic, as simple as it is.
5. Combat - "It's Whoop-Ass Time!"
And now, the fun part.
This is where you detail what your character is capable of and what their Persona can do. For people apping for OCs and OFCs, they can answer these questions with numbers. Even so, a description of what you are looking for is handy because this will allow us to help you get the basic idea of what you're looking for. Players apping for PFCs will only need the description, as they have stats already, though these like anything else are subject to modifications.
Your character stats will be simple and straightforward. You can generally put direct stats down there without much trouble, and we've provided the guidelines for that in the stat newsfiles. For Personae, you're going to want to give as detailed a description as you feel is appropriate. There might be some resubmissions necessary if you want to do everything manually, so asking for the general idea of what you want will get you on the game much faster. If you feel something is wrong even after we do it, you are welcome to contact us and request changes.
5a. Personal Stats - "Don't Think, Feel!"
What kind of person is this character? Are they fast? Tough? Strong? What kind of weaponry do they use? What kind of signature attack might they have?
STR 50
MAG 60
AGI 65
VIT 45
LUK 55
This is based off of the suggestion on the app revision request, which makes sense. The luck is justified due to the good luck charm/momento that he receivd from Yoh's will. Since Wataru is very avoidant of people, his agility is his highst stat.
HP: 285
SP: 140
The weapon that Wataru uses is a crowbar, which is a striking weapon.
Also, you get access to a special physical attack which can be used regardless of whether you are a Persona User or not. You can choose any single or double Element for the attack as long as it can be justified without the use of a Persona. For example, Jin possesses a Grenade attack which is Fire-based. You can choose to inflict a status with it, but it will deal less damage directly if you choose this option. Additional options include healing or support Special abilities.
Signature Attack: Alter - Healing Song
Wataru will pull out his acoustics guitar from his case and will start playing a soft, ambient song that will provide an invigorating light to heal all allies within the vicinity. It is a group healing ability.
Pretty much this tune:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o56Xra2wYgU 5b. Supernatural Abilities - "Persona! Persona! Call out your Persona!"
The Persona that I chose for Wataru is Agravain, one of the Knights of the Round table. Agravain is a fairly stand-up knight who is gruff and quite anti-social. He is also noted for having the reputation for malice and villainy. He exposed his aunt Guinevere's affair with Lancelot. Yet, he does heroic deeds and is named as one of the respectable knights.
Wataru is a bit anti-social and standoffish, so Agravain fits Wataru in a way. There is the noble attribute of the knight in Wataru that befits him as a young knight as well. Inspite of the anti-social behavior, he tries to do what is right.
Wataru is of the Hanged Man, so I imagined Wataru with healing and attack spells. However, I can settle for dark related atttack and physical attack spells too.
It is important to note that Wataru has the ability to call upon his Persona by will. However, Wataru has his brother's Evoker and may likely use use it because he saw his brother do it. As Yoh is the biggest role model in his life, Wataru will mimic the things he done.
6. Background Assets And Miscellany - Mark danced crazy!
What kind of background resources does your character have access to? Does he own a business? Does he have an inheritance? Pull at the local supermarket? A group of good friends? Perhaps he is Famous On The Internet. Whatever it is, let us know what your character has (if anything), and describe the scope of these assets and what restrictions if any are on their use.
Wataru's father, Todasu is a managing director at a music label company called HAS (Heavenly Audio Station). The label company has access to many artists including amatuar pop idols. This makes good RP development for folks trying to get on Wataru's good side so that they can get recommended for being considered for being an idol.
Wataru's mother, Hisoka, is a former officer, so she is known by the police force in Chiba and some circles. She is a sharpshooter with a handgun. She has a license to carry a shotgun and is still good with it, especially moreso than Todasu, who is afraid of touching it.
Additionally, if they have any unusual abilities or skills that don't affect your stats, tell us about them here.
All done? Spellchecked? All questions answered? Excellent, you're ready to roll. Please send your application to personamushapps@gmail.com with the header:
