I was really freaked out about the plane crash because I used to take that flight back and forth between Fredonia and home all of the time back in school. A girl I know's father was on the plane, which is just insane to me.

I feel weak to admit this, but to this day I still can't discuss or face what happened. It happened so close to me and affected people that I knew. It's just too distressing. It's all I can do to even mention it right now.

And you're right. It could have been us. It could have been our neighborhood. And the fact that it wasn't just doesn't sufficiently comfort from the fact that it did happen.
