Junior Kyle Bettencourt and two other Campbell students were recently recognized for their contributions in Next STEP magazine. The three were among 15 students chosen as Super Teens for New England.
Bettencourt, 16, helped found the school’s Gay Straight Alliance and is involved in two local gay support groups. He also appeared on an MTV reality show, “Camp Jim,” and announced then that he’s gay.
Evidently, that brought him and Campbell High School to the attention of the Kansas church. A posting about the school appeared on the group’s Web site, www.godhatesfags.com.
Bettencourt could not be reached for comment.
