Itachi+Mikoto moments make me wibble so much. ;__; And yours here is tinged with just this immense, unmistakable--and yet flawlessly masked--tragedy. Not unlike what Itachi and Mikoto experience here themselves, at the personal level.
I especially like the interplay of these two bits:
She bit her lip, deciding on whether or not she should gamble and mention... "If you ever- I don't tell your father everything, you know."
and
who had grown so used to not needing help that he had forgotten how to ask for it.
Because the first takes them both into this intensely personal space, a confidance; and the last tells the reader that even in that space, nothing will be revealed, beause the words to do so cannot be found. When Fugaku comes in and seals this truth, the emotional resonance of this is that much more devastating.
My heart, it is captured. <3 Awesomeawesomeawesome job.
