Veronica Mars had trained for over two years now in all conditions the island had to offer, a wide variety of sunny, sunny, sunny, snowing and sunny, but there'd never yet been humidity like this. It bogged her down, weighting her to the ground as she took a step to the side, watching John for a hint of his intentions. Under Arya's instruction, she'd become good at hiding her own. She wasn't sure that was so true in this weather.
It was good practice, though. She had no mind to complain about it, partly because Arya would probably make a go for a rock if she did. A twig whipped against her thigh and she ignored it, lunging forward, sure that the heat slowed her down. The bruises she'd already accumulated were a testament to that.
If John was going to be honest - and he really had no extra energy not to be - he kind of enjoyed when Arya made her students fight each other, if only because he wasn't training with Teyla.
At least going against anyone who wasn't Teyla meant he had a shot.
He shuffled backwards when Veronica lunged, his height doing most of the work for him to get out of her reach with only a few steps. "You having fun, Mars?"
"Are you kidding?" Veronica asked, shifting back a step. "I always have fun kicking your ass."
Every last damn person over the age of ten on this island was about three feet taller than her, it seemed like. She'd gotten better at not losing her cool, thanks to Arya, but this weather made it tough. This time, she waited for him to come to her, at the ready.
"Hey now," John said, eyebrows rising as he twirled the sword in his hand once before pointing it at Veronica. "There is mutual ass kicking going on here."
She didn't get those bruises just standing around.
