Okay, so I decided to go with making the purple skirt next, got the fabric washed

mom suggests a ruffle made of wide eyelet lace for the bottom, to make up for the missing fabric. that way you can get the right length, still have a margin for error and have something cute/quirky.

I'd have to buy lace if I go that route... My grandmother had lace trim, but I didn't really keep any of it because I hardly wear lace. LOL

Hmm. Maybe I should also make the waistband wider in the back than the front... This would keep me from needing to make the skirt longer in the back, which would mean I could keep more of the length...
