The thing is, Wash isn't sleepy.

"Too much like flowers," comes the drawled observation from just outside the kitchen door.

Jack Sparrow's leaning against the frame, black eyes sharp as he watches the other man. "Much more better if you put a spot of rum in, savvy?"

Wash goes rigid for a split-second, then turns around, a palm leaning heavily against the counter.

He's beaming.

"Jack. Hey." Voice still a bit scratchy. "Didn't know you were camping out on board, when'd you get here?"

"Only a visit, mate. Came aboard yesterday, I think it was."

It's a little harder to tell time aboard Serenity than it is aboard the Pearl, or maybe it's just that he's not used to it.

A beat, and a quick flash of a gold tooth as he grins.

"Good to see you, mate."

You can't miss what you can't remember, in those blank spaces between, but that doesn't change the fact that he's back home.

He leans a little more weight on the counter and gestures to the brewing tea. "I think we're on a tragic and depressing rum shortage right now, but you're still welcome to it if you want any."
