cowardly heroes and forgiving protagonists
{Once upon a time,
there lived a Key and a Jonghyun or a Jonghyun and a Key.
It didn't really matter the order really because
they were inseparable.
They weren't perfect but they were together
and perhaps, in that essence, they are perfect and
that's all that mattered.
28, when Key was 28 he makes a decision
Key thinks to himself that it's time that he begins his journey. Map in hand, he goes off, trekking across Korea, leaving Seoul, leaving his home for the last 3 years. He doesn't know where to begin his journey but he knows his destination. It was supposed to be a journey he took earlier he presumes but it's never too late he thinks. He'll cross bridges, rivers and even through North Korea if it takes. Everything he does is done in the name of love.
27.5, when Key was 27.5, he ponders to himself
27.5 and he doesn't feel like an adult more than anyone out there. He cooks meals for himself and doesn't remember the last time it felt like to be kissed. Maybe that did make him an adult. He was boring. He was a coward that didn't fight for love. He was supposed to be a hero, not a villain but he thinks that he's ruining his own story.
25, when Key was 25, he loses his favourite raptor
He wakes up and Jonghyun's not there. He feels at a lost - well he almost does until he realizes that he knew it was coming. He knew that in this fairytale, there were too many good things and that he should of taken those signs at heart. The bad omens, the choked sobs and sparse kisses should of been an indication. Or maybe it was the way that Jonghyun looked less and less alive. Key wasn't clingy, he knew when to let go. He knew that Jonghyun was being captured and taken away by something else and it was up to him to save Jonghyun. He just couldn't do it.
23, when Key was 23, he learns about acceptance
Key and Jonghyun, Jonghyun and Key have come to terms that they're alone. Not quite alone per se but they're all alone in Seoul. He doesn't know how he should feel about this. It was scary. It was foreign and it was definitely not normal but at the same time, it wasn't... that bad? They didn't like the idea of this but they knew they weren't the only ones left in Korea so it didn't matter.
22, when Key was 22, he forgets about the world
Key wakes up eyelids glued shut with kisses littered across his throat and alone with Jonghyun. Alone. The kisses were normal, the desolation wasn't. They're dazed and confused but above all, alone. The streets were empty and they could feel paranoia creep upon them. There is no one but them. He feels afraid. Despair almost. It's quite unnerving when one wakes up with kisses and ends the day trembling. He wants to scream at Jonghyun to make everything better, he does scream at Jonghyun but at the end of the day, all they have is each other.
19.5 when Key was 19.5, he knows
Key decides that Jonghyun was his. His princess, his prince? His other half. The one that he wants to live happily ever after with. Forever. He feels giddy and at peace and he thinks that Jonghyun defined perfection. They were going to be together like glue no matter what. Dragons and raptors can't interfere with their love.
19, when Key was 19, he feels
Key thinks, knows that being in love is the best feeling in the entire world. He can't help but smile till his cheeks ache, kiss till his lips are bruised and touch till his hands have mapped out Jonghyun's body. He loves the way that Jonghyun's nostrils flare when he's happy. He feels invincible when Jonghyun's hands are firmly interlocked with his whenever he wakes up. He loves the feeling of being in love. He loves the idea of being in love.
{sidequest
He is the hero of his tale. He fought the ghosts and whispers of no ones. The choked sobs and the harsh solitude. He was of course a coward too. Heroes aren't meant to be perfect in this tale. Key took 3 years. 3 years was a long time to anyone, to him, and most importantly, to Jonghyun.
He travelled, far and hard. He took shortcuts that lead to perils and long routes leaving him exhausted. He stumbles, but he doesn't fall. He keeps track of the destination and the journey as well. He meets friends on the way that make him never think twice about regretting it. Onew, the fry cook at the one fast-food joint, Minho the athletic wonder boy and Taemin, the... well... one could say he was the fairy godmother of this story. }
28, when Key was 28, he learns about friendship
So together, they were a quartet, with him a leader. Onew cooked, Minho provided the power work and Taemin was their mascot/fairy godmother who made everything better with his smiles. And so it was that. They asked and in return received. What they received weren't always true and accurate but it was fine, they did it. They found another lead on the whereabouts of Jonghyun. They were entering the dragon's cave. It was easy entering the cave, but it wasn't easy advancing but that's a different story, for a different time. They did it, they found Jonghyun.
28, when Key is 28, he does yet another cowardly act
Jonghyun is perfection in his eyes. Jonghyun is his prince his knight in shining armour, his...just his but he can't bring himself to talk to him after so long.. It's awkward and above all, difficult. One cannot just go up to someone after three years and go, "Hey! I love you, let's get back together". One just can't so when Jonghyun catches sight of Key, Key can't help but run as fast as he can, running away from the one thing he invested all his time in looking for.
29, when Key is 29, he was able to define infinity
And in which they live happily ever after is what defined Key & Jonghyun because no matter how fast Key ran, Jonghyun was still able to catch up to him, huffing and puffing till their breaths were synchronized. Took you long enough he says smirking. Key doesn't rebuttal, it's true but it doesn't matter since they were together again, fingers intertwined drinking beer along with their newfound friends, Onew the fry cook, Minho the athletic wonder boy and Taemin, the fairy godmother.
And they lived almost happily ever after,
Key and Jonghyun, Jonghyun and Key.
They weren't perfect, they had fights and swore at each other.
They didn't agree on everything
but their mapped out kisses and smiles
evened things out enough and maybe,
that is their happily ever after.}
