Basically, I was talking to my grandma early this morning. Alaska recently has had spectacular weather, and horrific winters, while North America had an... Interesting winter.

She said that the last time she's seen weather this great is when she originally moved up here, about 30 years ago

I know from a trip to Denali that the ocean shifts back and forth every 30 years, causing distinct weather patterns. It makes me wonder if the currents have changed.

I'll vouch that she's not lying. Our weather has been quite beautiful here recently, although I don't know if I'd call it "great" with my personal temperature preferences.
I believe FT is quite definitely on the right path, or at least making the right assumption. If I recall, most of those current changes involve the way that silt and the like is deposited on the ocean floor, and how it changes temperatures.
I love how complex nature is!
