hate to break it to you but that's the premise of the show... about how the firefighters are dealing post 9/11

i read somewhere it's based on characters that leary met. someone he knew, his cuzin or brotherinlaw or something was a firefighter who died on september 11th

Leary is very involved with fire fighters, starting a foundation pre 9/11 when he lost his cousin and a few friends in a blaze in Mass. He's started the Leary fire fighter foundation and subsidizes training for firefighters that isn't covered with the money they recieve for normal training. This project is apparently something he's wanted to do for a long time. The show, as apparent in Leary's monologue towards the end of the episode with the shrink isn't so much about 9/11 but the unsung acts of fire fighters period. In the monologue his character talks about the tramatic experiences he has had before that disaster. I'm not saying they shouldn't talk about 9/11. I just hope the show doesn't become a political platform. Of course it needs to be discussed, it's part of their life. But this show needs to be character driven. We need to experience these lives through the characters, unfiltered. I think the putting a filter that is to 9/11 exclusive would be a fault in an otherwords promising premise.
