Xenogears goodness

Last night, I spent the majority of my night curled up on the couch with Xenogears. I'm now 8 hours in, I don't think I've sat and played a console for more than an hour since I was 19ish. Makes me realized how crappy the games out today are (story wise) comparatively. I'm on the part where you fight Elly in her gear when she's on "Drive".  So I'm

If you want a modern game to play that I think the stories are good in, try out the Shin Megami Tensei series. I love these games sooooo much. Most of them are dark and do play with religious themes. Well, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne does, but that one has a more open ended style of game play. Less emphasis on plot and more of what you do determines what happens.

Since you don't mind religious and philosophical pretension (I don't mind them either, obviously :P), then give those a shot. MegaTen is slowly, yet surely, becoming my favorite game series :B
