On Folk, or really, what I've been listening to

With Lisa Hannigan spreading like wildfire across the Internet thanks to Stephen Colbert, the other day I found myself saying in a post about her on lord_whimsy's LJ that I'm "nowhere near where she's coming from, musically." THe folk movement have perhaps become a bit too big for a movement. It has become a bit of an underground niche. Though the folk movement isn't very strong in Sweden, in fact, there are few bands who could be considered folk in the contemporary sense. Something like that.

It really is too big, which is why at the end I came in and listed exceptions to "folk" that I have enjoyed upon the first listen and still enjoy despite my taste swinging into the direction of the post-Cage abyss. I didn't want to give the impression that I've given up entirely on the genre (whatever it is now).
