Volume 4, Chapter 18 - “Exposed”

I kinda liked Alex. I’m better that he’ll eventually come back to the show? Though, who knows.
What is he deal with Danko? I just don’t understand his motives, or what the purpose of that character is. I don’t like him, I don’t particularly care about him. Why does he want to kill the people with powers so badly?
I am now nearly positive that Rebel is Micah. Rebel uses various forms technology to contact people, the messages sound like something that Micah would write, Rebel seems like a very talented hacker. I mean, It could be someone else, and I still kind of think that it could potentially be Molly, but I don’t know how she would be able to do all the hacking stuff, unless that’s some big character development plot twist thing. But the writers have said in the Behind the Eclipse from a couple weeks back, that we will be seeing Micah again sometime this season. Micah wanted to use his power to help people too, so that’s another point for the “it might be Micah” theory.
Sandra is such an awesome character. I think that with Elle off the show (and that still pisses me off), Sandra is my favorite female character. Loved the way that she was tuned into the van outside the house being people from Danko’s team, and how she so quickly came up with a plan to get Alex safely out of the house. It was really amusing how she just took Lyle’s driver’s license for having gotten a C or whatever in his History test - and he didn’t seem to particularly care that she took it.
The dual telepathic infiltration of Peter and Matt at Building 26 was pretty cool. Interesting to know that Matt’s power can be used to mind control people from distances, and he seemed to be able to use it through the computer surveillance too. Though, it was too bad that Matt was captured, but of course much better for him to be captured than killed.
Luke was starting to get on my nerves. Again. I mean, I found the prospect of his role on the show interesting, and at first he seemed interesting too, but it just seemed like it would be so irritating to Gabriel/Sylar to hear all this stuff about the great times that Luke had with his dad, and knowing that Luke knew more about Gabriel/Sylar’s father than he did, etc. I didn’t like the way Luke wanted to use his powers for no useful purpose too. But whatever.
Poor Gabriel though! Being sold to his uncle and then watching his mother be murdered by his father, and then left there in the parking lot like that. What a horrible man Samson Gray is! Part of me had been wondering if maybe Samson Gray had killed Gabriel’s mother, especially after Gabriel/Sylar and Luke stopped at that diner and he said he knew something had happened there. That is, the part of me that was not still hoping that Angela was really his mother. Given that Gabriel saw his mother be murdered in that way, and seemingly having suppressed that memory, I wonder if he has some form of PTSD which causes him to subconsciously keep reminding himself of his mother’s murder? As strange as it is, with my PTSD I’ve sometimes subconsciously don’t things - drawn images when doodling, written words unrelated to what I meant to do - which act as triggers for me relating to my friend’s suicide which caused my PTSD and subsequently make me very ill.
So the memory that Gabriel/Sylar got from his clairsentience based on holding on to his sad little toy car took place in 1980. And he looked about 4 or 5 years old, I would guess. Which surprised me both because I didn’t think he was that old (not that 4 or 5 is old) when his father sold him, but also because I was under the impression that he was closer to Peter’s age than that. In 1980 Peter would have turned 1, and I had figured that Gabriel was born like, 1978 or so. But this would put him at either being Mohinder’s age, or slightly younger. I’m betting slightly younger just because he always seemed younger than Mohinder to me. Also, was it just me, or did the 1980 portrayed in the memory look more like it should have been in the 1960s?
Glad that Gabriel/Sylar did not kill Alex, despite my irritation with him, but I don’t blame him for taking out his frustration with Alex and telling him to go home to his mother. Though, don’t think that Alex will go home. Not sure if we’ve seen the last of him yet.
That clip of Claire and Alex kissing underwater, in the previews, did not look like underwater to me, and what’s more, my initial reaction to the shot was “is that Peter and Claire kissing?!?” but then I realized that there’s no way they’d have done that, and so I thought, “wait, who is Peter kissing?” and then it took me a little while to realize that it must have been Claire and Alex.
It was both good and stupid of Nathan to come and save Peter from the fake hostage negotiation situation. Nice to see the Petrelli boys with this mother again though.
Again, Danko, I do not understand you. Fixing Matt up to blow up DC? WTF? In a Behind the Eclipse from earlier this month they said that there will be some reason revealed as to why Danko hates people with powers so much. I’m looking forward to that because as of now, I just don’t get it. And when a villain doesn’t have some good reason for acting the way they do, it’s just not that investing, their part in a story. I like my villains to be complex and have depth to them.
Leaking the footage of the people being shipped off to Building 26, I feel like I’ve forgotten what impact that really had.
So Doyle is not dead! Therefore, if it was his power that Gabriel/Sylar was using earlier this volume, he had to have gotten it through empathy. Which is kind of bizarre. Or from breaking free of his control, which I still think is a valid possibility. Strange though, that Rebel would tell Doyle to go get help from Claire, and obviously very creepy for him to show up and start eating their microwave popcorn without anyone noticing. The showing up part is the creepy part, mostly.

Volume 4, Chapter 19 - “Shades of Gray”
I was looking forward to this episode so immensely, and it was certainly a very interesting one. Not that there are uninteresting episodes of Heroes.
Not sure if I really trust that Doyle wants to start up his puppet theatre stuff again and has changed his ways. But I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.
Glad that Nathan saved Matt, and whoever else would have gotten killed had DC blown up. I wonder though, if this means that the explosion painting was actually prevented, of if it still will happen this season.
It’s weird that Nathan still cares about Tracy.
I really liked the idea of Claire working at the comic shop. That would have been something really cool to continue. My brother had this idea that maybe people in Sam’s Comics’ across the country would start acting as sort of underground railroad type places, helping people with powers get to safety. But it seems that with the way the episode turned out, Claire probably isn’t going back to work there. Which is really too bad.
Samson Gray is a creepy, creepy man. I don’t think that Gabriel/Sylar would ever want to turn out like him. I also think that it surprised him to find out what his father is really like. That poor Rabbit! I hate taxidermy, I hate those exhibits in natural history museums, it’s all so sickening. I got the feeling he was planning on using taxidermy on Gabriel. I don’t think he knows about the cutting off the tops of people’s heads thing. What the hell is that power Samson has with the freaky whistling? That was the most disturbing whistling I’ve ever seen/heard. My brother pointed out that now that Gabriel told his father about there being a cheerleader in California who has the ability to heal, it seems likely that Samson might try to track her down. This definitely does not seem like the last time we’re going to see Samson this season. He could totally play into Claire’s wanting to help people too, him being so sick and all, she would likely give him some of her blood, and he probably would kill her and take her power. Maybe Gabriel will have to save her?
The lunch between Angela and Danko was interesting. But was that even in this episode?
I adored that they had Angela clutching a pair of socks in the limo. It was a nice little nod to volume 1’s having Angela shoplift socks. I even wonder if she had stolen that pair too. What is it with her and socks?
I don’t know what good it will do having Danko off of the project. It’s not like that’s really going to stop him from going after the people with powers, I’m guessing. But I get that Nathan didn’t want Danko involved, but I just don’t think that it will help all that much. Although, I guess that the government agents won’t follow Danko’s orders anymore, which puts Peter at less of a risk (maybe, unless Danko just goes after him anyway), and the shoot to kill order will probably be dropped.
What exactly is the purpose of Gabriel/Sylar’s leaving the taxidermy rabbit on Danko’s desk? It seemed like he had a clear purpose for doing it, but I honestly cannot figure out what it is.
I did not expect that Hiro and Ando were supposed to go protect Janice’s son when they were given the order to go protect Matt Parkman. Is that baby really Matt’s son? Or is Janice just really weird and wanting to torment Matt by naming the baby which is not his, after him? The baby sitter running out all freaked out like that reminded me a lot of The Incredible, and it also made me feel like Matt’s baby much have a power already.
Oh! It was good that Claire helped out Doyle, I think. I mean, I don’t like him, but if he really does mean to start over and stop being villainous, it’s good to give him another chance at life. Also, I feel like Sandra made his fake ID too. Forgot to mention in the previous episode report but it was really amusing to picture Sandra wanting to follow around Def Leopard. I want to know more about Sandra in her youth.
