There is Joy in Sorrow: Miyuki's Torment
The SECOND Wives Tale
Miyuki hated him at times.
He was much too smart, too nice, much too nice, much too handsome . . . too perfect.
She wasn't blind. She knew he had flaws. But that didn't matter -- his flaws made him special, more perfect in her eyes.
Miyuki hated how well he got along with both girls and guys. She hated how casual he was.
HATED to know that no matter how PRIM and PROPER she was, he'd never notice. He'd never NOTICE her.
So Miyuki hated that she was in love. Bitter at her own situation.
+
It was hard not to notice her bestfriend in love. And it completely mocked her. It frustrated her. Megumi was lucky! The guy was nuts for her and all she ever had to do was confess!
Miyuki hated how her bestfriend could have the love of her life. If she was brave enough to say those 3 simple words. But she didn't and Miyuki was forced to watch this parody of a romance.
So she decided to play Match Maker.
. . .
"She loves you, you know." She stated casually as they bent over their shared class project. He made a non-commental sound. "That's nice." he replied. "Which she, this time?" he asked.
"Megumi." Miyuki answered, writing down an important fact that would be useful for thier project. She felt him snap his head to stare at her. "Close your jaw, Nino" she instructed without looking up. She heard a snap and nodded.
"Bullshit."
"Language." She automatically scolded. "But it's true."
He doesn't say anything after that. But Miyuki could hear the gears in his moving and knew it was only a matter of time now. Miyuki knew how people like Nino worked. They would torment the truth out of the person, trying to confirm if the information provided was the truth. Trying to see if it was real, to avoid rejection. Avoiding the pain.
Miyuki ignored the voice in her head telling her that maybe this plan of action would hurt her friend. She was too far gone. She hated how they could have their fairytale--and she couldn't.

"He confronted her, Bitch."
That voice was so cold, biting and unfriendly.
She immediately recognizes the owner without looking up from her thesis.
"Hello to you too, MatsuJun" she greets back sarcastically, "Nice to see you again."
Jun drags the chair across her, ignoring the other students protests to the noise. "I know you were the reason he knew." He snarled. Miyuki doesn't deny it. Seeing her neutral expression, he leans forward--trying to distract her. "You nearly broke her." he hissed at her. Miyuki looks up with a sigh and shrugs.
"She'll get over it. She's Megu." She tells him, inwardly stung that her best friend told this male diva first--before HER.
Jun sneers. He stays silent and picks up one of the library books. He suddenly threw it at her, startling her. Miyuki flinches away as it hits her. She opens her mouth to scold him but he beat her to it.
"Just because you're jealous and a coward to chase after your own prince doesn't give you the right to ruin someone else's fairytale."
Then he left her right after, letting his words stew. As he walked away, Miyuki couldn't get rid of the Bitter flavour he left behind.
She scowls at her retreating form, biting back the tears. She hated Jun sometimes. He had no right to preach, especially when he shared the same situation.

It was rare for them to be alone together, but it wasn't unwanted.
Never unwanted.
He gave her a smile of greeting but Miyuki could see the stress lingering behind his eyes. Her shoulders drooped a little. He was troubled by something.
She could sense that he'd rather be somewhere else but kept his promise anyway. That was one of the few things Miyuki loved and hated about him.
But she took this chance anyway, not broaching on the subject.
She'll take what ever she can get. So they went to work right away, but she could tell he was distracted.
"Go." she told him as she started keeping her things. His head snapped her way so quickly he was afraid of the whiplash. "What?" he asked.
Miyuki gave him an unimpressed smile. "Your distracted and edgy. You're not a very good tutor right now." she tells him and huffs. "So you either go away or you stay and I fail this test with a negative number."
He beams at her, and it made her heart skip a beat. "I still find it awesome how you could read me so well everytime"
As he dashed away, Miyuki gave a heavy pained sigh. She didn't want him to go, but wouldn't do them either any good...
She hated how he could make her fall inlove all over again.

She left Tokyo for 3days, ignoring her phone to avoid distraction. That and she was avoiding her heart. She came home to this mess.
Miyuki has never seen him this angry before. She knew of his explosive anger but this, this was not explosive. It was a Super Nova.
She knew there was something wrong when Megumi came in class with her blank mask in place. But she couldn't find herself to ask her what was wrong.
When Nino came stomping infront her friend, her heart froze.
The quick pained closed off expression on Megumi's face told her exactly what happened.
For the first time, Miyuki thought maybe, maybe their romance wasn't a fairytale at all like she thought. Maybe, Megumi's story was a little bit more difficult than hers.
Then he appeared in all his roaring rage and punched his bestfriend . Miyuki thinks that he wasn't the Daring Prince but the Dragon in those cliche' fairtytales.
Miyuki couldn't help but be entranced, forgetting the drama all around her. She snapped back to reality when she felt Jun push her. She turned to him in frustration but his exasperated look made her defensive.
"Go" he told her with another push. With that, she left quickly, ignoring the guilty tinge she felt.
She bit her lip as she sought him- that she chose herself over comforting her friend. But she couldn't find it in herself to regret her decision.
Yet another thing she added to her growing list of mistakes.

"Sho." she called out to the huddled figure under the bleachers. He didn't reply, not that she had expected him to. But she knew he heard. She crawled in, slowly realizing how hard it was for him to do what he did. Nino was-is?- his best friend. She couldn't fanthom how much betrayal hurt. Silently, she hopes she never would
"Sho." Miyuki tries again, nearing the sulking man.
She stopped infront of him, looking at him with longing, her hand resting on the arm hugging his knees.
"Sho." she whispered. He didn't reply.
Miyuki stayed silent, staying with him in this comfortable silence.
She looked away, out to the field and it's brightness. She closed her eyes and hummed in contentment.
She hated how content she could be with just this. It sucks to be so low maintance.

Megumi sat dejectly infront of her & Miyuki suddenly realized why they were bestfriends in the first place. They share the same heartache.
"Megu" she called out. The girl didn't reply. Miyuki expected that. The cousins were more alike than their actual siblings, it was as if they were really siblings- instead of being just relations.
"Gumi-chan" Miyuki called, reverting to the baby nickname she had for her friend. Megumi gave her a slight chuckle.
"I hate it when you call me that" Megumi told her, with raising her head to face her. "Are you okay?" Miyuki chose to reply. Megu shrugged. "I have no right to be hurt."
Miyuki sighed. "Then why are we sulking?"
Megu gave her unamused smile. "I'm sulking." she told her. "You chose to join me."
Miyuki sat down and leaned in. "That's Nino." she told her. Megumi looked down. "...yes"
"You love him?" she asked, but came out more like a statement.
Megumi stayed silent. Miyuki let her. Letting the only sound come from the pencil that moved through the paper.
"...do you love him?" Megumi asked, breaking the silence.
"I do." Miyuki tells her and closes her eyes.
She does and she knows its making her slightly bitter at the world.
"Tell him" Megumi finally says.
Miyuki chose to stay silent.
+
Miyuki realizes that Megumi was a sneaky bitch. She stole away Jun and the other girls, claiming help on her wardrobe and needed their opinion on what to wear to the opening of her father's newest business venture.
That left her with Sho going home alone. Megumi was a sneaky bitch.
"I love you" she whispered as Sho decided to send her home, like the gentleman that he is. He stopped beside her, she stopped a few steps ahead.
She hated how she was so inlove with him that she reduced to this. She hated being in love.
". . . Miyuki. . . " his voice carried over to her from behind.
"I love you" she repeated and felt him move towards her. "I've been in love with you for so long, and I'm just so tired of keeping it a secret."
She clenched her fist as she tried to ignore the rampage of emotions. "I hate being in love. I hate you for making me feel this way-I hate -I hate..." she paused, unable to continue as the her tears fell.
He wrapped his arms around her, his chest warm on her back, one thing she loved about him. Miyuki clung to the arms that surrounded her, letting herself be surrounded his precense. She closed her eyes, taking in his scent, his warmth - his mere prescence surrounding her.
Miyuki took a small steady breathe and smiled.
"I'm turning so bitter that I started hating Megu, you know." Miyuki told him quietly. "She could have her fairytale ending if she just told Nino her feelings."
"But she won't." Miyuki says with exact certainty. "Because Megumi has always been a coward"
Miyuki drops her face as the tears kept coming, looking up slightly at the empty street.
"I don't blame her though" she continues, "Nino is hardly the easiest man to fall in love with." Miyuki states. "Though I wish my fairytale was as simple as hers."
He doesn't say anything and Miyuki sighs. She stands straighter and unwraps herself from his embrace. He lets her.
Miyuki takes a few steps forward and turns around. She smiles brightly at him, they both ignore her tears.
"I've been avoiding my fairytale-focusing on someone elses" she said. "I might hate you for making me fall for you, Sho-kun." She gives him another smile. "I might be bitter at everything, but I'll never regret falling for you. Loving you was the best thing that ever happened to me."
"Even if my fairytale wasn't meant to be."
Sho's eyes blazed and he took a step towards her. "Why?"
Startled, Miyuki took a step back. "Why what?"
"Why are you saying those things like that's the end?" He sneered. "Why are you making a decision without consulting me?" Then he smiled at her gently. "Why are so sure that your fairytale ends like that? Don't I get a say in this at all?"
Miyuki's eyes widened at his implications. "Do you mean-?"
He smirked at her and stood closer.
"What do you think, Honda-san? You're in the honor roll for a reason."
Miyuki didn't reply, her face splitting in a smile so wide she felt like it would break.
Finally, the bitter taste in her mouth left, replaced by the sweetness engulfing her entire form.
Oddly, her first kiss with him had a lingering bitter flavour but she couldn't find herself able to regret it. Not this. Not them.
Not together.
