i see some existentialist tinges to this entry...

those two questions in the middle are what it's all about, probably what every religion ever created is trying to answer. some say we go to heaven, some say we're released from the cycle of life and death, and some philosophies just out and say we dont mean anything at all and everything we do is part of the void of nothingness. and it's one thing we're not going to know for sure, so while we're at it, we create our own meaning...something you have the power to do, should you want to.

sometimes it seems a little depressing, doesnt it? we humans sure do know how to screw ourselves. we gotta work on that.

i do not believe in heaven.
i do not believe in god.
i think that religious people find comfort in belief because they feel the need to find answers ambiguous questions.
i, for one, am not religious.

and we are all screwed.

personally, i find no comfort in believing that we are screwed. if you believe we're screwed, then i think youre that much closer to just resigning yourself to what may be fate and not doing anything about it. we're not at the point where we're fucked, dead and gone just yet. change is possible...we're not necessarily going to change in nature, but we can sure as hell change the choices we've been making as a race. and that is what i find comfort in, the fact that if we are a little more aware then we can do something about our current course. the cliche "where there's life, there's hope" makes sense. while each human is alive, each human has the possibility for goodness and change. you can either just give up and be defeated or you can see what you can do with "the hand that you were dealt."

i don't believe humans will outlive the next "warm spell"
especially if everything is already way warmer than usual.
since the ice caps are melting:
-the ocean will be filled with more water to increase the level and flood huge areas
-the enviornment will be more friendly to disease-carrying insects, being warm and wet
-the salty water will invade our fresh water sources for drinking and bathing
-the dilution of the salt water will stop the currents in the Gulf and other bodies of water
-the coral reefs will die off because they cannot survive in warm water

happy end of the world as we know it.

bleh, how true.
it's funny, how we can all close our eyes to our bleak futures as a human race, and still have beautiful paintings, people, flowers, and just life. occasionally you want to just roll over and it's just ugh, but other days you can't help be over come by the beauty around us.
now, this beauty can be both a driving force, as we want to preserve it, however, I know for me, it would just distract me.
haha
