Smoothies..yum

So I just made my first home made smoothy. Cranberry juice lite (w/splenda), yogurt, frozen strawberries, a random orange that was too squishy to eat and some ice. Its yummy, and not nearly so sweet as the ones I've had in stores. I like the taste of smoothies, but most of the ones I've gotten in shops are just tooo sweet so I don't get them. ( Read more... )

Frozen fruit means you don't have to add ice, and they don't go bad nearly as fast. You can even freeze fruit that's just past ripe and use it later (bananas are good for this.) I use milk or yogurt in mine, so I get some protein and calcium - and it's more like a fruity milkshake with no added sugar.

I liked the extra ice though. Added some crunchy.
Thanks.

Oh, yeah - you crunch ice. I don't like ice because when it melts, the smoothie gets...watery.

Yeah, but I kinka like it that way. I put water in my OJ to water it down to about half strength.

I buy bags of frozen fruits...normally peach, strawberry, pineapple, sometimes blueberry, and then I buy some sort of base fruit juice....I usually use OJ, Mango Juice, or Pineapple juice....stick in enough frozen fruit, add enough wet juice to make the blender work (about half to two thirds up the frozen fruit), and spin it. Sometimes I add honey.

And at times, I'll throw in a banana if I want that creamy texture. I've honestly not used milk products in my smoothies....maybe once or twice I tried ice cream, but really, the fruit and juice is enough of a thick treat for me.

And if you have a lot of people around, everyone can pick the fruit they want in their smoothy.

That sounds pretty good. I have read about putting bananas in them but the ones I have had with bananas sometimes taste too..bananay to me. I don't normally drink milk at all, so I was looking for something other than cheese and more cheese. I like yogurt okay but keep forgetting to eat it. But, this was yummy.
