honesty is a funny thing. and by funny i mean really uncomfortable sometimes. was there a point in which i should have held something back because i knew how it would make someone feel? should i have said more in the conversation? stated things more from my emotional point of view? or logical? should i have not said anything at all and made ( Read more... )

I've been grappling with this thought for a while as well. When is it good, or loving, to be discreet? When should we say the truth? Is it a lie to keep silent?

So, far, what I've found is that under damn near every circumstance, making a clean breast of it is the best solution. Sometimes we're afraid to; certainly I've been afraid of saying something at last, or what it will do, or how the other person will feel. That doesn't change what is right.

in the short term, truth is scary.

in the long term, anything less than the truth is even scarier.

have i held things back, sometimes? yes, but i've tended to regret it.
