So I lost the book I was supposed to read and write a five-page essay on for tomorrow. Discovered this on Monday. Attempted to find new copy on Tuesday (tried the university bookstore, off-campus textbook store, and local chain bookstore; nothing). Responded to failure by just not fucking caring anymore

The first step to getting by this is to just relax. I'm no good at giving advice for bad situations like this, but if there's nothing you can do there's nothing you can do. Can you ask a fellow classmate to lend you a copy of the book (if it was assigned in class)? Could you check your local library? In any case, good luck and I hope this turns out alright. :(
