Writing (sigh)

Once upon a time I wrote fiction. I've had poems published. But what genre of writing did I end up mastering?

Institutional prose.

I write a damn good letter and even better curriculum statements. I just miss the creative imaginative work.

You wrote such a great fanfic for the 2006 raam New Year's Challenge that I just threw up my hands and gave up. You had the same idea I had, but did it so much better, I knew I couldn't compete.

I think that was the last time I wrote fiction.

Hahaha, I know what you mean. Although I'm still writing fiction, my ability to express myself in academic language is so much better.

Perhaps the next curriculum statement could be in the form of a poem? I know of an astrophysics paper that was written as a Doctor Who fanfic (for lay distribution, in addition to a 'proper' journal article).

(I asked at HISAR if I could write an MPhil chapter as fanfic. I don't think they realised I was joking... ;P)

More seriously, does your schedule allow for a little time per week to be blocked off for creative writing? I'm building it into my schedule as a mental health/relaxation tool.

The trouble is, I think, that I'm becoming the voice of The Man.

RESIST! Topple the man and become the new man. After all, if you're going to join the system, it's best that it be your own system.
