The return of the beard

Feb 27, 2011 09:56

Something I've been noticing on campus this year: the return of the full, bushy beard on young men. These aren't "I forgot to shave this week" stubble or carefully groomed goatees. These are full, several months, if not years worth of growth, ungroomed beards.

Huh.

I was about to say - clearly, the prevalent Portland/Silver Lake/Williamsburg style for guys in their 20's is finally making its way down to your parts!

I haven't noticed that yet on the campus where I work, although it tends to be slightly more conservative than other universities, but I recently met a friend I hadn't seen in 6 or so years, who's got a job at another university near me, and he's cultivated one of those. It's weirding me out.

(Although I can see why he may have done it - it ages him. We're both 41, and he looks it with the beard, but without he looks in his 20s. It may get him taken more seriously.)

Do they at least wash and brush them?

I certainly hope so, since I see most of them in the cafeteria.
