I suspected as much. But it's a huge cultural artifact, like it or not. So, I guess you're going to "read" it at all, then audio book is definitely the way to go? Somehow I don't think I'll get around to seeing the movie.
I suppose perhaps I am jaded as the book focuses heavily on mysteries and revelations pertaining to kabbalistic and religious symbolism, and I am probably more steeped in those subjects than most people. Still though, BLECH!
At least I was doing other stuff while I listened. If I had devoted the time to actually reading it I would be far more irritated.
yeah - I'm so sick of the hype around it... the average Joe walking the streets isn't even familiar with 90% of what's in it. *shrug*
Although I do think it's funny that the Vatican feels so threatened by it exposing the lies it's used to control people's minds and lives for so long. Hell, if people would just watch the History Channel they'd see what a crock "The Church" is...
I have also been listening to this book at work, and I fully agree with you. All the puzzles are so blatantly obvious it makes me sick. More than anything all I can ever think when listening to it is how much better an author Neal Stephenson is. I know I mention it often, but you should really read Crytonomicon. Seriously, make time for it because it is almost certainly the best and most relavent fiction book I have ever read. I know you liked Snow Crash and this book is the realization of this author's full potential. Please let me give it to you.
I just listened to it at work and in the car and though it was interesting enough. Im sure you had much more insite into what was bullshit but at the same time the book is fiction, and as some guy trying to make money, it may have been meant as entertainment for the masses of people uneducated in such stories?
Yeah but my point wasn't to call into question what was or wasn't bullshit. Most of the ideas about the grail and DaVinci and so forth weren't really bullshit, or at least were plausible bullshit. I just thought the book on the whole was extremely boring, repetitive, and predictable.
