Just wanted to post a few photos I was recently able to scan of the wedding I presided over earlier this year for my very dear friend Kim to her husband Azeem.
From left to right: myself, Azeem, groomsmen. This was before the actual ceremony.
Kim and her father. He was weeping profusely, and I found it extremely disarming.
I think this is where I am giving my monologue.
I had to show Azeem his vows which I had written in my book. Everyone is cracking up at this.
After the ceremony during the photographer's gulag.
I think sometimes when I tell people about my doing this, they tend to think it was something informal and inconsequential, but that was certainly not the case. Although I am not a person of conventional religious persuasion, I did not feel under-qualified for this role, and honestly felt I had appropriate spiritual authority to act as the officiator. I would absolutely do something like this again, and in fact have been asked to preside over Nicole and Mikey's wedding in May, which I have agreed to.
