SPN Anime Ep1: "The Alter Ego"
Ok, so I've just finished watching the first episode of Supernatural The Animation, and let me tell you, I am STOKED for the rest of the season :)
Oh Season 1, I have missed you so.
The episode starts out like any ole' Supernatural episode: a snippet of the case. Here we see a woman tied to a chair, begging for someone to stop. We see a man sharpening a kitchen knife and he is reflected in the glass of a photograph sitting on the table. The man is also in the photograph. The man proceeds to stab the woman (who is in her undies) and blood splatters all over the room.
Cue Title Card.
Here we see the Winchester bros driving down a stretch of road, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Some soft-rock-ish tune plays in the bg. We get a mid-shot of the boys in the Impala; Dean is wearing sunglasses and is whistling tunelessly, while Sam seems to be dozing off in the passenger seat. Sam has a flashback of his childhood; the YED stands over him in his crib, he is running through the forest, being chased by what looks like zombies and Dean yells at him to shoot when one gets too close, he does and then we see Jessica burning on the ceiling.
Sam wakes in shock.
Here we get some brotherly banter (including Dean calling Sam Sammy and Sam retorting). We find out they are driving to Missouri and they are working on a case to do with a man that murdered his wife, and multiple cases like that. But there's a twist: the 'murderers' were somewhere else when the killings happened, placing them at two places at once.
The boys arrive in town.
We see them walk into a busy police station dressed like detectives, and Dean hails down a lady walking away (Sam: Dean! >:O) He asks for a Detective Boyle and it turns out that the lady is one Catherine Boyle.
She takes them in an interrogation room where a man (the one in the beginning killing his wife) is sitting at the table. The man (Zack?) insists he is innocent and did not kill his wife Amanda.
The boys go through the security footage. Sam finds something strange about the man. He asks Dean to pause and rewind the video. He sees the man's eyes flare. (the conversation here is pretty much on par with the original episode)
The boys drive to the victim's house with Detective Boyle. The detective opens the door for them and Dean enjoys the view from where he's standing behind her. (oh Dean) Catherine cuts her hand by accident on the door and Dean wraps it up nicely for her. And then he tries to ask her out, only to be cockblocked by dear old Sammy :D
The house looks terrible. Everything is covered in blood. Sam suspected it might have been demons, but there's no sulfur.
Catherine is looking at a photograph. She looks distraught. Dean looks at the same photo and realises Catherine is in it. He mentions it and she tells him that she was Amanda's childhood friend.
Sam's trying to open a window and he's pulling it with all his might. It finally snaps open and he looks out. He sees a trail of blood leading to a manhole. He tells Dean to leave with him and they do.
Now they're trudging through the sewers. (yay more sewers XD Here Sam mentions salt-rounds and vengeful spirits hee :D). They get distracted by a rat, only to be attacked by the shape-shifter. He hurts Dean's right arm pretty bad and knocks Sam out.
Sam comes to and sees he's tied to a pillar that's suspending him from a lengthy fall. We see the shape-shifter who has taken Dean's form. The shifter puts a hand to Sam's head and another onto his own head. Sam figures out he's the shifter because he raised his right arm to his forehead and the real Dean had just been injured there.
The shifter 'download's' Sam's memories and we have the convo that happened in the original episode. The conversation ends when the shifter says "Thanks to you guys, I've finally found her." Sam:"Who" Shifter: "Catherine"
The shifter walks away leaving Sam to struggle with his bonds. He kicks loose some stones and one sizable one hits the real Dean's head (WTF LOL) Looks like Dean was tied up just below Sam.
Cut to the shifter who is changing his disguise.
Then: Dean burns one of the ropes tying him up with a lighter from his pocket to free himself and jumps onto a nearby link of chains.
The boys drive off and they figure out that they're dealing with a shape-shifter. Dean's got just the thing for them: silver bullets. Sam and Dean part ways here: Dean goes to Catherine's apartment while Sam investigates elsewhere (ahaha I didn't catch where...)
Dean is invited into Cathrine's apartment. She thinks he's spouting crazy about some monster. She has him at gunpoint and says she looked up 'Davies' (Dean's undercover name) and found nothing in the database.
Dean sees that the cut on her right hand has disappeared. She's the shifter! They tousle and things look up for Dean until...
We hear footsteps, and we see that the cops have surrounded the apartment complex. The shifter jumps out through a skylight and right about now sounds like a great time for a good old curse from Dean :)
Cut to a dark alleyway where you can see all the police cruisers parked. Here we see Sam running towards the cars. He curses. Suddenly someone holds a gun at him from behind. Sam turns to see a SWAT officer... who only turns out to be Dean!
The cops who have stormed Catherine's apartment only finds an officer tied up and gagged!
The boys drive off. Dean tells Sam that Catherine was the shifter and that it ran away. Sam gets angry. Dean says it was better off and that they can chase after it from a nearby entrance to the sewers.
Dean thinks something is up with Sam and holds his gun to his head (WHILE DRIVING!! D:) Dean thinks Sam is the shifter while Sam thinks the opposite. They try to wrestle for the gun and there's some crazy driving here.
Dean temporarily blinds Sam and asks Sam if he remembers they used to fight all the time when they were kids. He does this to distract Sam and picks up his gun (which had been dropped previously), but Sam beats him to the chase. Sam aims at Dean.
We see a busy road and someone that looks like Sam walking by and then runs to the middle of the road. He stands and aims at the impala, which is approaching quickly.
In the background we hear Shifter-Sam arguing with Dean about who is the shifter. Dean insist he's the real thing; so does Sam. Shifter-Sam ends with a chilling "I'm sorry you don't believe me!" and we hear a gunshot.
The Impala stops just short of hitting Sam and there is a bullet-hole in the windshield. Looks like Sam made it just in time. He's killed the shifter. I just love the exchange between Sam and Dean here:
Dean: You're late.
Sam: You're welcome.
Cut to the sewers Sam and Dean have just rescued Catherine. Dean is carrying her on piggyback. I love this scene!
Dean: How's it feel like, shooting yourself?
Sam: Feels like a dream.
*Carry on My Wayward Son plays*
Catherine: Hey, thank you for saving me.
Dean: It's just my job.
Catherine: Your job? You mean you boys go around hunting these things?
Dean: Well, yeah.
Catherine: Buy why?
Sam & Dean: It's the family business!
Catherine: I see.
Dean: But you're a detective, aren't you going to investigate this?
Catherine: I'm kind, you see.
Dean: Oh.
And the Credits roll :)
(I love these little illustrations! I wonder what Jensen thought of the leg guitar one? I thought it's hilarious they put that in the credits!)
Epilogue
We see the police station again and and Dean/Sam asks about those who have been wrongly convicted. Catherine tells him that they'll be checking their alibis again and that they'll all probably walk free soon.
She wishes them well and they drive off.

All in all, it's a pretty good start. I want to see more flashback stuff and I'd DIE if the Gabester was in the anime! So far so good! I can't wait for the 2nd ep ( which I can only watch on my DVD when it gets here!!) and my box sets! >________<
