Employment Law was my very first class as a graduate student. I got up bright and early today at 6:30am to be sure I could be at class at 8:00am. Was the lesson that this way of thinking is discrimination, or was it that it's hard to distinguish between discrimination and normal, acceptable social stigmas ingrained in our very genes?

I know of people who would fly off the handle if they found out someone was attracted to one race more than others, but I've always figured it was a pretty acceptable thing given how we're built.

Either way, it sounds like an interesting class and you'll do well regardless.

Her point was about how we all discriminate in some form or fashion because we all have deeply ingrained biases within ourselves that we just don't notice. Keep in mind that this is a law class. She isn't concerned with the moral or ethical components of discrimination, but instead the focus is on not violating the law, costing your employer thousands and thousands of dollars, and losing your job.
