I love tomatoes, and since they are susceptible to disease and all sorts of bugs, I decided they would be a good way to challenge myself and see if I can grow other produce of my own to combat rising grocery prices. We are not in the poor house or anything, but $2.00 for a fucking bell pepper? IN SEASON??? Give me a break! I will not be growing any corn or rice, even though they are the big Global Crisis foods because (a) we don't eat a lot of corn, (b) rice is still cheap, and (c) I have no space for such an operation.
The hanging planter is awesome. I hear some people call them "salad bowl gardens" because they hang the tomatoes/peppers and grow lettuce and/or broccolli and whatever else might go in a salad in the top part.
FYI, Julia R. is apparently living out in the country and raising goats now. If things really get out of hand, I am going to ask her to start a farming co-op. Because she and I are obviously the best-suited to form a mini government for an operation like that.
Oh my god, she is living the dream! Where is she? What part of the world?
I hadn't even thought about combating food prices by growing my own! I don't have a green thumb really though. But I am interested in seeing how it goes for you!
