The afternoon was overcast and cool, but not chilly enough for Hibari to consider wearing more than his standard yukata. Hibari cracked open one eyelid enough to glare at Yamamoto, then closed it again. "Really," he said. He didn't move, except to school his features into stoniness again when Hibird shifted. It wouldn't do for the fool to think he was smiling at him, not when he was so late.

Hibari did not like waiting, and he waited a lot whenever he made plans with Yamamoto Takeshi. He wondered, not for the first time, if he should just give it up, this odd relationship.

At last he sighed, and opened both eyes. "Will you able to discipline yourself to sit still for the duration of the tea ceremony?" He asked bluntly.

Hibari sighed again and woke Hibird, who chirped once before clambering up to settle on his shoulder. He moved to his place before the kettle and utensils, shooting another glare in Yamamoto's general direction and seating himself properly. "First mistake," he said crisply, "you walked in. You are supposed to make your way in on your knees. Second mistake - you did not cleanse your hands. Third mistake - you did not take note of the chabana or the kanji, which are arranged especially for the ceremony." He picked up the single tea cup on the tray beside the kettle, took the soft cloth tucked beneath his belt and began to clean it carefully, paying close attention to it. "You would do well to note that the kanji is 'tranquility', and the single branch of sakura is appropriate. I would make you repeat all three steps, but we are beginning late enough already."

Hibari was also a stickler for the rules. His rules, at any rate, and any that suited him.
