Hallowe'en Challenge: A Hornblower Amphigorey
For reasons best known to herself, eglantine_br has taken to writing Hornblower / Edward Gorey cross over fic featuring a young William Bush, Basil Hall and a very forward young lady named Amy. This led vespican to suggest that perhaps we should do a Hornblower Amphigorey which struck me as a fine challenge for Hallowe'en!
For those who haven't come across Edward Gorey before, he was an American writer and artist who published a macabre series of gothic stories and verses from the early 1970s until his death in 2000. One of his most famous pieces from the Amphigorey, published in 1972, is The Gashleycrumb Tinies in which an alphabetical list of small children meet their demise in increasingly bizarre fashion.
So your challenge for Hallowe'en is to construct a Hornblower Amphigorey composed of the various characters who kick the bucket over the course of the series as a result of the dreaded Proximity Clause which dictates that any character Hornblower becomes too fond of must be despatched forthwith!
I've helpfully constructed a list of the deceased below the cut, but I'm sure I've missed a few. You can despatch characters individually, or if you're feeling particularly creative, you can kill them off in pairs with rhyming couplets! And because this is Hornblower fandom, there is no limit to the number of times a character can be killed off. I mean look at Archie, he "died" twice!
