Best films to have won best picture*:
1. The Godfather: Part II (1974)
2. Rain Man (1988)
3. The Godfather (1972)
4. The Sting (1973)
5. Forrest Gump (1994)
Honorable mention to Braveheart (1995), which was an excellent film, but since people seem to think it's a documentary (it's not) I can't let it slide in to the top 5. Also honorable mention to Shakespeare in Love (1998).
Worst films to have won best picture*:

2. Crash (2005)
3. Gladiator (2000)
4. Rocky (1976)
5. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
As much as I hated Crash, it admittedly did include some quality acting performances (but NOT by matt dillon). And I love the lord of the rings story, but I can't help but find the films dull, repetitive, and too heavily focused on the cgi war scenes. 3-5 are really just "not oscar worthy", rather than "completely reprehensible films entirely that i am offended even exist" (1 and 2). Dishonorable mention to "Oliver!" (1968), I felt it was unfair to slam it as a worst film since my disposition towards musicals in general is probably clouding my judgment.
