2 Geeks, 1 Old House has been updated with all the information that you never wanted to know, or even cared about, regarding why an appraisal is different than an inspection. (A concept that took me a while to grasp and that my Mom is still having difficulty with; thus, the big long post ( Read more... )

You and I are in a complete different situation. When we bought our home it was brand new and built for us so we didn't have to have an appraisal done to see how much it's worth =/. I do know the difference between the two as an appraiser is there to let the bank know how much the house is worth to see if it's in their best interest to give you a loan.

The only thing I wish someone would have told me, which I'm sure you know by now, that buying a home is probably THE MOST stressful thing you will ever do in your life. I rather plan 5 weddings then go through that again..even though I know in about 5-10 years I'll have to XD.

That's interesting; I think that I'll go add that to the appraisal information. ;)

I'm going to have to remember to do a post about how much buying a house sucks, although all my brain dying posts probably heavily imply that. XD Why will you have to move in 5-10 years? I can tell you right now: if we get this house this is the house that I'm going to die in. I'm not going through this shit again. I'm not meant to handle long periods of stress or waiting. I need the ability to plan and if I'm left without that I tend to go slightly insane. >.

Even though we love our home, it isn't our "dream home". Berrae and I figure we will probably be buying one or two more homes before we build our dream one.

Wow, I salute you. I definitely do not have the mental and emotional ability to handle this more than, maybe at a stretch, twice in my life. I've already told Ryan that if we don't get this house I'm getting preggers asap and we're done with houses for a while 'cause I cannot do this again anytime soon. >.

The site is mostly 'cause 1) if we get the house, I want to be able to document the stuff we do for our friends and family and 2) it keeps me from going insane by talking stuff out and making me feel like I'm doing something. >.< My body is just not meant to deal with long periods of stress like this.

To be honest, it's the waiting that really drives me crazy. I think it has less to do with me being a bit of a control freak and more that I like having a plan. I like planning for things. Plus, I just hate waiting. Waiting sucks.
