Character: Romanadvoratrelundar
Series/Fandom: Doctor Who
Deviance: D2.
Age: 800+ (A lady never reveals her age) but appears to be her late twenties/early thirties.
Gender: Female
Species: Gallifreyan ; Time Lord
Appearance: The version seen of this Time Lady is portrayed by Lalla Ward: blond hair that false over her shoulders, a small face always seen with a warm expression. Much like her previous regeneration she has a taste for fashion, often times changing her outfits from trip to trip. But upon her appointment as Madame President her typical garb was the robes of a Gallifreyan; long sleeves that belled out, hiding her hands, her dress trailing against the ground and a high collar of gold that seemed to blossom on either side of her head as well as behind.
Psychology: With the ending of the War all that remained of this Time Lady is a former shell of herself. Oh, it is quite easy for her to smile and strike up a friendly debate or banter with another. Her quick wits and tongue are just as sharp as ever - to blend in is something she has long since come to learn. And in those times she dwells on that peace, a momentary happiness if you will. The memories of her past are pushed aside in favor of the now. Because she is no longer in a position of absolute power as she was when she was President the guilt lessens just a fraction. Even now she is still used to being ridiculed by others. Her ideals as questionable as ever but to her it does not matter. The wisdom of her ages is what guides her forward.
But deep down, to which she reveals to nary a soul, is a reflection. The decisions she had made in the past are questioned. Her relationships both past and present are reviewed, yet seen as if she were watching all through a looking glass. The tortures from the decades of imprisonment had broken down whom she was. Others may try to become close to her but there is still a distance she puts between herself and the rest of the world. In order for to get through the day to day Romana buries herself in whatever task is on hand. Now, this is not to say she regrets being alive. On the contrary, to have survived the massacre is like being handed a second chance.
It is a small comfort for her to offer guidance to an alien race that is still so young. Even masking her true identity with lies, for word of Gallifrey’s hardship and destruction had traveled through the stars, she is still able to find a place for herself. And in this, this Time Lady continues her own self-reflection to be herself. To be her own Romana.
General Skills/Abilities: As a Time Lord, it goes without saying that shares the same abilities as the Doctor and the Master: the first being regeneration. In the original television series Romana regenerates at the beginning of season seventeen, taking on the appearance of the Princess of Atrios.
Another subject is being able to sense the presence of other Time Lords, as well as telepathic abilities though this is not displayed much during the season. Now one of her biggest strengths is her intelligence. Having graduated from the Academy with a triple first there is no doubting just how smart she is. But even more important than this, she is unimaginably patient with the Doctor. Yes, they are equally stubborn, but she is still able to tolerate his mind flittering about not to mention his rather large ego. And anyone who can do that is certainly gifted.
The most important fact to point out, though, is that she was elected as the President of Gallifrey. With her voice to command and argue it was no surprise that was able to work without the council controlling her every action. She was a woman of her own mind, not willing to be puppeted by anyone, ever.
General Weaknesses: Her own arrogance can be her undoing. The fact alone that an opposing force often captures her is enough proof as it is. Not to mention the fact that she is so unbelievably stubborn that it has left her capturer aggravated and impatient. There are times where she will also not heed the Doctor's advice and go off on her own - once she has an idea in mind there is no stopping the Time Lord from going through with it.
History: Like any other Gallifreyan child, at the age of eight Romana was taken into the Academy where she was trained and taught the ways of the Time Lord. Actual events between then and her first appearance in season sixteen are not known. But it is explained that she was in the top percentage of her class, not to mention a triple first - the highest rank possible in the educational stature upon graduation.
Upon this, the White Guardian had selected her to accompany The Doctor (Fourth Regeneration - Tom Baker era) in the quest find the pieces to the Key to Time and assemble them in order to restore order to the universe. From "The Ribos Operation" all the way through to "The Armageddon Factor" Romana (who was played by played by Mary Tamm at the time) she traveled with him as the most sensible one of the two though far too often she was kidnapped and held hostage to be used as bait to lure the Doctor into some sort of a trap.
When the finally assembled Key to Time was taken apart to avoid being taken hold by the Black Guardian, Romana was prepared to begin their search once more the pieces. At this she had decided it was time to regenerate her form - which was rather unnatural seeing as a Time Lord would only regenerate if they were on the verge of death. After countless tries she finally settled upon the form of the Princess Astra.
Over time before her new position she traveled through the far reaches of time and space with the Doctor and K9 - for them it all started on Skaro, the challenges of the Daleks and Davros signifying their first new times together. Time spent in Paris, the troublesome yet eventful time distortion that created memorable times for them to look back on. From "The Creature from the pit" all the way till her departure with K9 at "Warrior's Gate", never once could she call a single moment of her travels dull and tedious. Everything she did with the Doctor she treasured deeply.
Her point of her new position of Gallifrey the hope for their adventures to continue had come to an end. Days were spent within the confines of the buildings as the council continued to work in their ways that even she could not agree with. At the beginning of her Presidency she had gone missing for two decades without warning. It was in those years that she was held captive by the Daleks at Etra Prime, forced to be their slave to complete tasks they themselves were incapable of. The young, inspiring Time Lady that used to travel died little by little each day she was spent locked up in the shadowed prison and constantly on the verge of starving to death. It was not until a former Monan engineer named Vrint and herself were assigned to remove parts from a captured vessel was she able to escape and run right into the Sixth incarnation of The Doctor and his companion Evelyn.
Though it was mostly from her own viewpoint, she had been influenced by The Doctor's own distaste for how things were ran, she worked to change the system to make even a marginal bit better. During her years on Gallifrey she spent it making changes for what she believed to be the better. At one point she had gained the company and trust of Leela, another once-companion of The Doctor. Though this is not shown during the television series it is revealed during the Gallifrey audio series as well as the novel Lungbarrow, which reveals that it was Romana herself that instructed The Doctor to fulfill the task of bringing the remains of The Master back after his trial and execution. In all her years back home running the government, everything had come to a brief pause when the Doctor did return in his eighth regeneration to take her and K9 away back to Cambridge on Earth for some time to visit Professor Chronotis.
And due to the fact the player is still going through the audio series, there is still just the general understanding and knowledge of the matter that despite her best efforts, Gallifrey was falling apart. Between the conflicts over the control over time, the Civil Wars, the economy falling, the Time War with the Daleks was the final bit to bring the planet crumbling down. In her final act of desperation she had spoken with the Doctor and instructed him to end the war himself by any means necessary should it prove to be that no end would be in sight for either parties.
The actually canon whereabouts concerning Romana has not been revealed though. Granted that The Doctor is considered the Last of the Time Lords, it was proven wrong with the return of The Master. Whether or not she is alive is up for speculation it is assumed that she dead unless otherwise corrected.
Reality Description: Eppesta, a world of high class and a thriving economy, not unlike the picture model of old Victorian times in Earth history records, except having jumped at least a few centuries ahead in regards to technology and society.
The Astonian Royal Family holds the ruling government. Governed by a pair of sibling rulers they handle the matters of the cities with complete opposite opinions. Despite their conflicting points of view, it allows choices that are brought before them to be handled with equal care, having the chance to hear both sides of the matter. What it comes down to the end, however, is how the advisory council is able to bring the two into some sort of an agreement. And at the head of the council is the Etinben-newkelth, or royal adviser in laymen’s terms. By chance this position was given to Romana after her arrival to this world when her TARDIS made an emergency landing right after the Time War. Her experience in ruling Gallifrey pleased both rulers and was asked to be their adviser, only after her recovery.
The working and functions of the city differ drastically, much like the rulers themselves. During the hours of the day under the sun people are bustling from the shops to the various conference halls where much of the hours are devoted to philosophical debates. The working forces are managed by a middle-class of sorts - businesses centered on the arts and technology blossom under the care of the leaders. At times a company will catch the favor of one of the rulers and find themselves pushing on farther in success than their competitor. Often times other worlds have sought out the services of companies here mainly for their transportation needs. Importing and exporting is the largest management in this city above all else however, which is why the people have been able to achieve such advancements in technology.
But when the sun goes down it is nothing but the hustle and bustle of entertainment. Each and every night there is always some sort of performance of a popular theatrical play or a concert by a famous composer. Films are also extremely well approved - and at least three wealthy families each night are holding some sort of a ball that will last into the early hours of the morning light. The fact that one has to understand about this race is that they require only seven hours of sleep every, at the very least, week. Some take the time to rest one hour during the thirty-seven hour day or sleep the complete requirement in one fell swoop.
